Avon Grove Charter School Spotlight
Home for the Holidays Event - Thursday, December 17th
Come wave to some AGCS friendly faces including Santa & Mrs. Claus between 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the drive thru Santa visit in the parking lot of the Nottingham Inn. The elves will be collecting your non-perishable food items to go to local food pantries. You'll have just enough time to drive through the Herr's Light Display before heading home for the premier of the 2020 annual holiday show. The video, "Home for the Holidays." will launch at 8:30 PM.
Due to the forecasted weather, an announcement will be made on Thursday regarding the drive thru Santa visit and non-perishable food collection. Let's hope there is just enough snow to make it pretty but not enough to cancel. Your safety is our top priority.
AGCS COVID-19 Dashboard Data now available on our website.
AGCS has created a COVID-19 Data Dashboard for our community. On the dashboard, you will be able to find cumulative AGCS data, data attributed to the rolling 14-day period which will be used to inform our instructional model decisions (see table below), as well as the weekly Chester County data that we previously were sending out on Fridays.
Equity Action Team Established
2020 will be long remembered as an eventful year. In addition to enduring a global pandemic, our country experienced a racial awakening after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis. While our school's efforts to create a Covid-safe learning environment have been widely shared, a group of more than 30 staff members have been diligently working since June to create a more racially equitable learning environment. The Equity Action Team invites students to share their stories in order to help us with this transformation.
Parent/Student Learning Intentions form available on Parent Portal.
At last night’s Board Meeting, the AGCS Board and Administration agreed to add an additional transition period for April 6, 2021. Therefore, the Learning Intentions form, which is now published to the Parent Portal, would be an instructional model choice for the period January 25, 2021, through April 5, 2021 (third quarter of the school year). There will be another learning intentions form, released in March, for families to make an election for the final quarter of the school year.
This form, which is now available in the Parent Portal, must be completed by ALL FAMILIES for ALL STUDENTS. This form replaces all previous elections.
Parents/students (K-12) who choose the online/remote learning model would remain online until April 6, 2021.
Current remote learning students (Red Cohort) who elect to transition to in-person/hybrid learning will be placed into a hybrid cohort (Blue/Gold) at the discretion of the building Principal to allow for class balancing to promote social distancing - not their last name. Families will still be assigned to the same cohort. Students who are currently hybrid students will retain their current cohort color (Blue/Gold/Green).
Click here for directions on how to complete forms via the ParentPortal. You will want to complete the “AGCS Parent/Student Learning Intentions (Jan25-Apr5)” form. If you have any difficulty completing the form or do not have access to ParentPortal please contact the main office.
Equally important, we will be conducting ongoing county and internal data evaluations which will determine if we remain in a hybrid learning format or transition to a fully remote learning model. There is the potential for the school to transition back and forth between hybrid and remote learning throughout the Spring semester. If this fluidity and uncertainty does not work for your current family situation, we encourage you to choose our online/remote learning option.
As always, we will continue to evaluate state and local guidelines related to our instructional model.

2020-2021 Picture Day Information
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding after we had postponed our annual student and staff picture day event due to COVID-19 concerns at the beginning of the year.
We understand how important it is for students and families to document the academic year with the opportunity to have a yearly school picture and will be holding picture days at both campuses in January 2021.
We will also be holding picture make-up/retake days 2/23-2/25 following the same schedule/process. Additional information about purchasing picture packages will be sent out separately. Please contact the main office at either building with any questions.
AGCS is in need of Daily Substitutes
Do you have a 4-year degree and are interested in becoming a daily substitute? AGCS has partnered with Substitute Teacher Services to offer a unique Guest Teacher Program to help attract daily building substitutes to our school. This program allows those who have a 4-year degree (does not have to be be in education!) to take an online training program that would prepare them for teaching in the classroom as a daily substitute.
Come be a part of the AGCS team and join our daily substitute pool!

Class of 2021 - Senior Celebrations continue
Senior Celebrations continue with the traditional class flag raising and spirit rock signing on Wednesday, December 2nd. High school principal, Dr. Maitland, and student council president, Carter Gassler, addressed the senior class during the ceremony. Mr. June and members of the choir kicked off the event with the school's alma mater and singing of the National Anthem.
Congratulations to the following seniors that were a part of the creative team.
Spirit boulder designers: Bella Gazoli, Marcie Coldesina, and Ryan McBride.
Senior flag designers: Emma Cochran, Hailey Couram and Kamaren McPhail.
The symbolism behind the flag design is:
- blue & gold colors represent AGCS
- crescent symbolizes new beginnings
- forest represents heading into the unknown
- wolf is our mascot and represents the Class of 2021's curiosity, intelligence, and fierceness

Health Services Updates
National Handwashing Awareness Week was December 6-12.
Practicing the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness will help you remain healthy during COVID-19 or flu season! It is the best way to stop epidemics and pandemics! Adhering to the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness you will be in virtual isolation regardless of the people around you because direct contamination (inoculation) of your facial mucous membranes (eyes, nose or mouth) is the most common way infectious disease enters your body.
Fingers are the 10 most deadly weapons that can give yourself the flu or flu-like illness!
The 4 Principles of Hand Awareness:
1. WASH your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating.
2. DO NOT cough into your hands.
3. DO NOT sneeze into your hands.
4. Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose, or mouth
