This Week’s Positive Message: I read the following on Friday…Black Mountain students and educators, today, I share with you a message of love. The messenger might be surprising. The famous scientist Albert Einstein, before he died, wrote a letter to his daughter about love. This comes from that letter… He writes, “There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others, and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE….This force explains everything and gives meaning to life. This is the variable that we have ignored for too long, maybe because we are afraid of love because it is the only energy in the universe that man has not learned to drive at will….Each individual carries within them a small but powerful generator of love whose energy is waiting to be released….When we learn to give and receive this universal energy, we will have affirmed that love conquers all, is able to transcend everything and anything.” Black Mountain, when we face tough times and we do it from a place of love, no matter the outcome, we’ll be ok. Students and educators, I love and appreciate each and everyone of you. Have a wonderful day.
Grand Opening: Thank you again to all those who supported and attended the Grand Opening of our Library and Wellness Center. If you missed it, here is a video recapping the event:

Odyssey of the Mind Shines: The BMMS Odyssey of the Mind recently competed in a Regional Showcase. They came in First Place!!! We move onto the state tournament in April. Good luck #HardWorking Raiders!
Secondary History Social Science Textbook Adoption: Poway Unified School District welcomes you to participate in the following curriculum opportunity: PUSD secondary schools are currently going through a pilot process for adopting a new History Social Studies (HSS) curriculum for our middle schools and high school United States History Course. Please visit our Secondary History Social Science Adoptions page for more information and directions on how to provide feedback. This opportunity will be available through April 1st, 2022.
Women’s History Month: In Homeroom this month, we are celebrating the many contributions women have made to our country. This week, we highlighted Girl Scouts of America pioneer Juliette Gordon Low and aeronautics trailblazer Katherine Johnson whose story was popularized in the movie Hidden Figures.
What I Wish My Parents Knew Workshop: It is our pleasure to invite you to our upcoming workshop, "What I Wish My Parents Knew," held at Poway High School on March 22 from 6:30 to 8:45 PM in the Performing Arts Center. We will offer a series of interactive workshops, two of which you will select to attend, on topics identified by students as their greatest challenges today. These include:
Managing Stress and Anxiety
Handling Academic Pressure
The Challenges of Social Media
Addressing Drugs, Alcohol, and Vaping
Establishing Guardrails
Communicating With Your Teens
Facilitators will include principals from 7 PUSD secondary schools, including BMMS’s principal, and various representatives from our community. This program has been presented to more than 6000 of our parents since we began these workshops in 2012.
Please come and get involved in our discussion on March 22 at Poway High. Thanks for addressing our most precious resource--our children.
Course Selection: Course selections for students coming to BMMS next year (presently 6th and 7th graders) closed on Friday. If your student didn’t complete it, please have them do so before school on Monday. We have posted two videos on our YouTube page that show how to select courses at BMMS. Here are those two links:

Our 8th grade students attended presentations from our local PUSD high schools last Friday focused on their course selection for next year. Here is a website to help with that process: https://sites.google.com/powayusd.com/pusd8thgradecrf/home
8th Grade Course Selection for High School is due by March 31.
Your students can ask their Homeroom teacher or their counselor for help with course selections if needed.

Please encourage all students to consider their elective VERY CAREFULLY. They are signing up for the entire year and changes are not often possible.
We appreciate your support,
