Principals note....
Please know that with the growing number of Covid cases in the community, we are going to ask our students to take their IPADS and important materials home each day moving forward. No decisions have been made however, we want to be prepared in case we would need to move to virtual for a short time. It makes since to me to be proactive when we can ! Again, our PLAN is to see your child's smiling face on Monday AT GES!
Enjoy your weekend, be safe and stay distanced!

Keller’s Clips: Good Manners and Patience
We, at GES, partner with families to teach and guide our Gators to stand out from the crowd, to have better opportunities for academic and personal success and to cultivate meaningful relationships. As we know, success is attained through a combination of academic, social and emotional strengths. Our building-wide positive behavioral supports help to guide our students to achieve success in all areas. This month, we will focus on the life-long character skills involved in having good manners and practicing patience. Our Gators will continue to earn Gator Tickets for demonstrating Great Choices, Showing Effort and exhibiting Safety.
Manners: To use socially appropriate behaviors around others.
Patience: Willingness to wait for what you want, need or deserve, without complaining.
Family Connection: Practice in many areas of our lives helps to form habits https://youtu.be/kUvgmujX8qQ: First Cry Parenting
1. Saying ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’
Asking for permission to receive something or to do something and Thanking someone upon receiving are vital social skills.
2. Asking Before Taking Anything
And to return any borrowed items by giving proper Thanks
3. Saying ‘Sorry’
Important habit to instill with guidance on when/where to say “Sorry” and not use it casually
4. Knocking on doors before entering
Privacy is important. It is respectful to knock on someone’s door and to ask permission before entering
5. Covering one’s mouth when sneezing or coughing
In addition, picking one’s nose in public is considered rude or unpleasant
6. Saying ‘Excuse me’
Children are naturally impatient; yet teaching them to say, ‘Excuse me’ and wait for another conversation to end
7. Not making Fun of Others
Vital habit to learn as it impacts not only the other person, it also impacts others’ perceptions of them. The knowledge that it’s not okay to make fun of others either in public or private.
8. Conversational Etiquette
How to have a conversation with others, with eyes focused, listening with our ears and processing what is being said in order to have dialogue with another
9. Showing Respect to Elders
Showing deference to age demonstrates good character
10. Using Others’ Names upon Greeting
Shows that they have made an effort to recognize them. Practice using the name often and to say it upon greeting them to help remember the name
We continue to practice being patient for our attention, for taking turns, and sharing. This life skill impacts all of us in so many areas of our lives, so the self-talk involved in practicing patience is key. Please practice this at home, as well, and have conversations surrounding how being patient impacts your world, as an adult, as well.
Body Safety Program at GES Nov. 16 & 17
Hello Geist Elementary Families,
Once again this year, our students will have a presentation from the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide, formerly known as Chaucie's Place. Think First and Stay Safe is a comprehensive body safety program that teaches children in grades K-6 ways to keep their bodies safe. The children will also learn appropriate ways to prevent, respond to, and report situations such as bullying, cyberbullying, and all forms of abuse and neglect.
Topics of focus include: Using your Built in Computer, Your Brain, My Body Belongs to Me, Telling a Trusted Adult and Everyone Deserves to be Treated with Kindness and Respect.
Each grade level presentation will take place in the classroom setting and will last approximately 35-40 minutes. Presentations will be done via a Zoom format. For our virtual learners, classroom teachers will share a Video link so you too can view the information.
Although not required, each child's attendance in the program is strongly recommended. Please click here for an Opt Out letter if you DO NOT want your child to attend. Please complete and return the Opt Out form by Nov. 13.
The program will be presented to children at Geist Elementary on Monday, Nov. 16 and Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Recycling Unwanted Lights Nov. 30-Dec. 17
Pop Tabs Collection
Did you know Geist Elementary collects pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House? If you aren't already, please send your tabs in with your child and they can put them in the bins outside of the Music Room! Pop tab collection alone brings in between $30,000-$50,000 per year in Central Indiana and goes toward operating expenses. Little things, as simple as taking off a pop tab, make a BIG difference and we appreciate your help in supporting RMH!
Blake and Max Everson help deliver pop tabs that Geist Elementary families collect. We have been able to fill an entire recycle bin with pop tabs each year and look forward to exceeding that amount in the 2020-21 school year!
The Everson Family stayed at a Ronald McDonald House in Winfield, IL in the summer of 2017 when Blake went through 6-weeks of Proton Beam Radiation Therapy to treat a benign brain tumor. Thanks to the amazing experience they had at RMH, they are able to look back on that summer with many great memories.

News from the Gym
Thanks so much to our Virtual Learners who have been joining our Zooms for PE. It is great to see your creativity at home and how you are trying to follow along with our activities in class. I will continue to do Zooms when your child has PE until the end of the semester. Please make sure to check Canvas for any assignments that your child is responsible for to meet the requirements for Physical Education participation. As we start to lose daylight, please make sure to stay active.
If your child earned prizes for Kids Heart Challenge last Spring, I will be handing them out when they attend their next PE class.
Thanks again for your support!! If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
