Grade 4/5 Homeroom News
See you tonight at Pilgrim's Open House for Parents!
A Hot First Week!
We started school on September 1st, and each day of last week seemed to get a little hotter! The classroom thermometer showed that it was above 90 degrees every afternoon. The kids did a wonderful job of working through the heat, as we unpacked supplies, organized desks and chair pouches, and learned the "lay of the land" in our classroom. We were also happy to welcome two new class members--4th grader Ethan Borggren and 5th grader Nate Goss. We're so glad you are both here!
Open House Reminder
Please join us tonight at 6:30 in Maring Hall for Pilgrim's annual Open House for parents. This is a really important night of information from the administration and your child's teachers. Please bring all of your questions and come enjoy a night of community and learning. See you tonight!
Volunteer Opportunities in Grade 4/5
Would you like to help out in our classroom? There are several opportunities available, including: two room parent slots (responsible for shopping, setting up, and cleaning up for our classroom parties), two PTL planning members who will attend monthly meetings and represent our homeroom on the PTL, two auction project helpers who would help create a class photo book--photo/tech savvy a plus! Please let me know if you are interested in any of these important jobs. Thanks!
Music or Chorus?
Kids in the upper grades have a choice of electives in music instruction for the school year. They can choose to participate in music class with Mr. Knuth, or join the chorus, which will be taught by our new teacher, Ms. Sorensen. Each of the teachers gave a presentation to the kids yesterday, and now it's time to make a choice about which class they would enjoy more. The chorus does a lot of on-stage performances that incorporate dance, acting, and singing. Mr. K's music class is not as performance-based, although the kids will learn to play recorder, perform at chapel services, and study a wide range of music. Watch for a form coming home for your child to fill out to make a music choice. Whichever choice your child makes will be in place for the entire year. Please email me at ktighe@pilgrimchicago.org if you have any questions.
