The Girl

By: Meadow Stowell

I was coming home from school one day and I remember looking in a puddle, but there was another person looking back at me. I was very frightened but I acted like nothing had happened. It was when I got home that I found out my life was going to change. I walked through the door and found my mother sitting on the couch staring at nothing but a wall. I sat in front of her and asked what was wrong, but what I got was no response. I then asked her again and she turned her head and pointed at the bathroom. It was at that moment I knew something was wrong.

I walked into the bathroom and turned on the lights. Everything looked fine, until I looked in the mirror. Again there was another person staring at me. “I have never seen this girl” I thought to myself. Then I made the biggest mistake of my life and reached out to touch the glass. When I did the girl opened her mouth and let out an ear shattering shriek. The girl then lunged forwards at me and that was all.

I woke up moments later on the floor and the mirror shattered. My mother standing at my side holding my hand. “Shannon? Are you okay?” my mother asked. I sat up puzzled. “Wh..What happened?” I asked as I look at my mother, but it wasn’t my mother. It was the girl. She was gripping my wrist and I felt a burning sensation. “What do you want from me” I screamed as I tried to pry her hands from my skin. The girl then looks at me and whispers “I want your soul”.

I finally broke free from her grip and ran out of the house. Every mirror, puddle, or anything my reflection showed up in was her. I couldn’t escape her. “What did she mean she wanted my soul” I thought “Why is she following me”. I went down an street with no mirrors or windows and very few puddles. I texted some friends to me me then suddenly I felt a tug on my leg. It was her. She was trying to pull me into a whole. “Was this how she was going to get my soul” I asked myself. I tried to escape but I hit my head and passed out.

I woke up in a dark place. There were dirt walls and I could tell no one was going to find me down here. I didn’t have my phone or bag because I dropped them as she drug me down here. I heard someone screaming but I couldn’t go anywhere. My hands were chained to the floor so I couldn’t go far from the wall. I heard footsteps and tried to dig the chains out of the ground but then the girl walked in.

She unhooked my chains and drug me to a room filled with other girls who weren’t alive. “What do you want with me? Why am I here?” I screamed. She was sharpening knives and I knew it was the end. She was walking towards me then out of no where and girl comes running at her. The girls name was Lisa and she is the reason I’m alive today. Lisa grabs a knife and swings it at the girl trying to murder us both. Then she pushes her down and stabs her in the heart. She was dead.

The cops found us 2 days later and we returned to our families. Lisa and I still talk and we found out that the lady trying to kill us was named Morgan McTruffman. She escaped from an insane asylum a couple years ago. The weird thing is that ever since it has happened I feel like someone is watching me.
