March News
From the Principal's Desk
I can’t believe March is already here! I am definitely ready for Spring weather.
We have several exciting things going on in the building and around town this month. Parent-Teacher Conferences are on March 13th from 4:30-7:00 and again on March 15th from 2:00-8:00. All parents are encouraged to attend. Please note that on March 15th there will be an early-out at 1:10 and that there will be No School on March 16th.
Our Kindergarten Music Programs will be held on March 22nd at the High School Auditorium at 6:00.
Spring Break is from March 26th-April 2nd. School will resume on April 3rd!
Library News
North and South Park schools are getting tiny libraries! These little kiosks will be mounted in front of the elementary schools and filled with free, donated books! If you see one that strikes your fancy, feel free to take it! If you have books you'd like to share, by all means leave them! The tiny libraries should be installed this summer. If you just can't wait, there's already a tiny library in Rothwell Park, in the parking lot across from the Candy Cane Playground. (the tiny libraries are independent of the public library and the elementary libraries).
School Counselor's News
In March, students will be learning about bullying. During counselor lessons we will discuss the difference between bullying and someone being rude. Students will also learn the importance of not being a bystander. Bystanders see the bullying happening, but don't do anything to help. Students can avoid being a bystander and can help stop bullying by asking the targeted student to play with them, reporting bullying to an adult at school or telling the bully to stop.
Title News
Does your child struggle in comprehending nonfiction texts? For many children, reading nonfiction can be very motivating because they are reading about “real life” topics they find interesting. For others, remembering nonfiction information may be challenging.
One way to help alleviate this problem is to teach your child two strategies that can help him/her organize their learning as they are reading. The first strategy is called “R.S.T.S.”…Read a little. Stop. Think & remember. Share or write what you learned. This strategy limits the amount of information, allowing time for the student to process and reflect.
A second strategy is called “The Handy 5Ws”… Students draw around their
hand on a piece of paper, and write WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY on the tip of each finger. After reading the passage, the student will write the answers to each “W” word along the length of the fingers. This will help young children focus on important information in a nonfiction text.

The 2018 Major Saver Discount Card campaign launches in Moberly on Thursday, March 1st.
Students will be selling $15 cards with 20 Buy-One-Get-One Free offers starting Thursday, March 1st thru Tuesday, March 13th.
Major Saver cards can be purchased via cash, check or online at www.majorsaver.com. The online sale can be credited back to a particular student and school. All cards purchased online will be mailed directly to the customer.
Major Saver is excited to roll out a new feature this year making online sales easier for friends and family! On our homepage you are able to enter your student’s information to create a CUSTOM LINK for your child that can be shared via social media or email. This link will automatically credit the online sale to your student when friends and family use the link to make their purchase!
Major Saver cards can also be purchased, and credited to a student, through the Major Saver App. Once the free app is downloaded to an Android or iOS device, buyers can choose a Major Saver card through the “buy cards” tab on the app. Once the buyer completes the transaction the offers will be stored in the Major Saver App. Buyers can then redeem offers directly from the app and do not need a physical card.
