This is a short week, but we have lots to accomplish. Although there are only two days of school, there is still homework. Please make sure that your child completes his/her homework.
Many of you still have not filled out the parent information form online. Please do that soon so that we have current information on everyone. This is a resource parent list that both Mrs. Ekstrom and I share so whether your child sees me or Mrs. Ekstrom, we need your information. Thank you!
We are also still waiting for everyone to sign up for the texting or emailing messages. This can be a very effective tool for us to communicate information to you. Please sign up for one of the options below. If you are not interested, please let me know. The information is below. Thanks!

5th Grade Reading
We spent all last week working on our presentations about The Little Free Library. This week we are taking a break from that. On Tuesday we will read a story from Six Way Paragraphs called "The Lone Eagle." It is about Charles A. Lindbergh. We will focus on the vocabulary and the questions. For homework they are to read the story and answer the questions. On Wednesday they will discuss the story and their answers in a group. They need to be prepared to support their answers from the story.

We will continue reading Island of the Blue Dolphins this week. It is our goal to read two chapters in class each day so students will be finished in time for the Catalina trip. We will be discussing as we read and reviewing vocabulary. Every night it is expected that students have read through the appropriate chapters and written a summary of what they read. Please check your student's planner and the website for the assigned chapters. Our goal is to finish reading through chapter 27 by the end of the week.

Last week the students started a writing project. I am using this as a baseline for where they are in their writing skills. This will show me what specific skills each of the students needs to work on, as well as how they proceed through the writing process. We do not have class on Tuesday due to the Stugo elections. That leaves us with Wednesday and next Monday to work on this project before the Catalina trip. Hopefully, they will finish. If not, we will carry it over for when the scholars return.
