ISBE and IDPH Guidance Update
Hello District 103 Families,
On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) issued new guidance related to the January 6, 2022, CDC updated K-12 Schools Guidance. We are transitioning our practices to the new guidance as we continue to receive updates from the organizations above as well as the Lake County Health Department.
The revised guidance along with supporting documents can be found on the ISBE Coronavirus website. The guidance and FAQ links are below:
The FAQ document is most helpful as it highlights the revisions to the guidance.
Along with this new guidance, please be aware of the following information and reminders:
Students who have COVID-like symptoms either:
Need a negative COVID test (PCR or antigen administered by a physician, pharmacy or testing center) before returning to school, or
If positive, need to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and return to school only if there is an improvement of symptoms (NEW GUIDANCE)
Students who tested positive must isolate for at least 5 days. When students who were home in isolation due to contracting COVID or excluded due to being a close contact return to school after 5 days but before 10 days, they must wear masks while at school, including outside during recess until day 10. This does not apply to students in the Test to Stay program. (NEW GUIDANCE)
Students who are staying home and are not COVID positive nor close contacts are not eligible for remote learning. These students will not attend Zoom lessons and will be marked absent. Students are permitted to use 5 mental health days during this time. Any days beyond 5 will be unexcused.
To assist with the shortage of BinaxNow tests at school for the Test to Stay program, please sign up your child using your Unified Classroom Account for the PCR testing. We can utilize this for Test to Stay and try to prevent excluding close contacts that occur at school. If you have already signed up for weekly PCR testing, you do not need to sign up again.
To help reduce close contacts on the bus, please talk with your child about staying in their assigned seat at all times.
When children are at home due to testing positive for COVID or are close contacts, please remember that it will take 24 hours to prepare materials for remote learning.
Guidance continues to change quickly and we must pivot in a short period of time to implement the new rules. As always, thank you for your partnership as we adapt to our ever changing environment.
Sincerely,
Scott Warren, Ed.D
