Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Various student materials will be distributed on Tuesday, September 8th. Many teachers are electing to send home the student workbooks for math. These will be available from 8-10 and 3-5. Your child's teacher will let you know when to pick those up.
We will have our first round of MAP testing beginning on September 22nd. This is an assessment we do every year, three times per year. Obviously this will be slightly different during distance learning, and I want to be sure we set the students up for success.
You can watch a video about the assessment here:
https://studentresources.nwea.org/app/gradetwoplus/what's_this_test_about.html
This assessment does not affect a student's grade, and it gives teachers great insight into what students know and where they may need targeted support. This is not a pass/fail test, in fact, it is designed in a way that students will inevitably not know the correct answers to many of the questions. It does this to figure out the exact level students are at in both math and reading. When your child is taking the test from home please allow them to work independently and do not give them assistance on the assessment. The teachers will be monitoring student work through google meet when the assessment is taking place.
I encourage the students to spend some time on the practice test. You can find that here: practice.mapnwea.org
The username and password are both: grow
Thanks for your support with this!

School Site Council Nomination Form - Nominate yourself or another parent by Friday 9/11
As part of the school plan we encourage the involvement of parents in the
education of their children. You are, therefore, invited to nominate yourself or another
person who you believe will serve our school community by being the voice of the parents
on the School Site Council. The first SSC Meeting will be on Tuesday 9/15 from 4:30-5:30 on the second Tuesday of each month thereafter throughout the school year. The council will meet to review and analyze the results of school wide assessments and climate data and make important decision on how best to utilize school resources. The names on the nomination form will be used for a voting ballot if each nominee agrees. All parents will be given the opportunity to vote for the parent members of the SSC via online ballot. Join us and make a difference!
