G.A.T.E.S. (Gifted and Talented Education Supporters)
Please join the Gifted and Talented Department as we strive to meet the needs of our scholars. In a recent survey, an overwhelming number of families indicated that they would like to learn more about, "How to support the Social and Emotional needs of their Gifted Learner." The SEL Department is answering that call and will be presenting at the next G.A.T.E.S meeting from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm on March 29, 2022.

Front Drive
The circle drive in front of the school is reserved ONLY for daycare buses, HISD buses, and parents of students with special needs. Parents dropping off their students in cars before 7:40 am must use the carpool lane. Parents of students arriving AFTER 7:40 am can use the front circle drive. All students who arrive in the building after 7:40 am will receive a tardy slip to be admitted to class. Tardies are recorded on students' report cards.
In an effort to make sure our students safely arrive to school, we have staff members arrive bright and early to help cross walkers, help PreK/K students out of cars, distribute masks, and direct traffic. Please be respectful to all our staff members as we all work to get our students to school safely!
Early Pickups
If you need to pick up your child early from school for a doctor or dentist appointment, be sure to check them out of school through the front office BEFORE 2:00 pm. Please do not come after 2:00 pm to pick up your child early from school. To ensure a safe dismissal, students will not be called to the office to be picked up after 2:00 p.m. since we are preparing for dismissal and do not have staff members available to get the students from recess, etc. We need all staff members in order to conduct dismissal. Thank you for helping to make dismissal safe for all our students.
Morning Carpool Lane
We are still working on how to keep our carpool lanes moving safely and efficiently in the morning. Please help us with the following:
- Students should be dressed with backpacks on ready to get out of the car as you pull into the carpool lane.
- Parents please stay in your car.
- Students should sit behind the driver as this is the safest side to exit the car.
- When the car comes to a full stop, 1st - 5th grade students can open and exit the car by themselves. Staff members are there to help our PreK and Kindergarten students and to supervise carpool in general.
FREE TUTORING
Ashford United Methodist Church is providing FREE TUTORING in reading and math to students in 1st to 5th grades. The L.O.V.E. program (Learning Opportunities to Vigorously Excel) has been working hard to develop curriculum that will supplement students' learning at school. Their tutors are certified teachers and use innovative and engaging activities to capture students’ attention and grow them as learners. They have been working with students since 2019 and have a track record of student success!
If you have questions, please email them at tutor@ashfordumc.org or call 281-726-1852 and ask for Lorraine White.
Please complete the Google form on the link below to enroll in the L.O.V.E. tutoring program. See the picture below for dates and times.
Cell Phone Policy
The second time it occurs, the phone will be confiscated and the parent has to come to the school to pick it up. The third and any subsequent incidents will result in the parent coming to school to pick it up AND a $15 fine each time.
Quarantine and Temporary Online Learning
If a student needs to quarantine at home, please notify the teacher, Nurse Middleton at cmiddlet@houstonisd.org and Dr. Hollingsworth at mhollin1@houstonisd.org so your child can continue learning via HISD's Temporary Online Learning during the quarantine.
The four hours a day of live lessons are taught by an HISD teacher, not a Daily teacher. However, the student is still enrolled at Daily Elementary and the daily attendance and weekly grades are sent to the Daily teacher. When the quarantine is over and the student is symptom-free, then he/she may return to in-person learning at Daily Elementary.
