Undergraduate Scholarship & Solo Opportunity

OVATION is offering an exciting opportunity for all current 9th, 10th, & 11th graders to earn scholarship money for music education and enrichment opportunities. Students can apply for the chance to earn financial assistance with things like voice lessons, music camps, sight-reading tutoring, etc. In addition to the financial scholarship money, a small number of students will be chosen to sing a solo on the Choral Showcase. We encourage all students who are continuing in choir next year to take this opportunity. For this year only, Seniors will also be considered for the solo opportunity. Details about this program can be found at the link below.

Thank you to everyone who has been willing to take home bags of "smelly" costumes for cleaning. All costumes must be delivered back to the school by December 14. Students can bring in laundry and deliver to the hallway outside of E157 (labeled with the name of who checked the bag out), or for quicker drop off, parents can drive through the front circle drive near Door 1 on either Wednesday, December 7 or Wednesday, December 14 between 6:30-8:30pm and parents will be available to pick up bags right inside the lobby. PLEASE be sure all costumes are FULLY DRY before returning. Even a little bit of dampness can damage the costumes.

2023-2024 Choir Placement Auditions

Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about choir placement auditions for the 23-24 school year. With nearly 400 students to hear, it takes a few months for the directors to evaluate each student and place them in the appropriately leveled ensemble for the coming year. Our counseling department also requests that all placements be submitted to them by Spring Break. This process will begin in January, and students can find all of the details in the 23-24 audition packet. We have given students hard copies of the packet and have also linked the packet below. If students have any questions, they can reach out to their individual director. We are looking forward to hearing all of the students and having them all in the program again next year.

Performance Opportunities

1. Rachel McClellan is the traditional worship director of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church in Fishers. She would like to give local high school students a performance opportunity on Christmas Eve. The church choir will be singing Jazz Gloria by Natalie Sleeth and the first section of Vivaldi’s Gloria on Christmas Eve. Vivaldi will be sung with a professional brass quintet. They would love the choir to have some boost in singers for these special pieces for Christmas Eve. Anyone can be involved!

Here is the run down: Rehearsals are on Sundays from 10-11 am and Wednesdays from 6:30-8 pm. There is a rehearsal with the brass Saturday morning, December 17 (time TBA). If students can make 4 rehearsals (out of the 11) that would be great! No rehearsal the following Wednesdays – November 23 and 30.

Christmas Eve service is at 9 pm (call time 8 pm).

If any local high schoolers are interested, please reach out to Rachel. They would love to have you!

At the start of second quarter, we introduced all choir classes to our On-Line Music Theory Program that we will be using this year. It is called "Breezin' Thru Theory". Students will need to login daily for assignments. They can do these on any device including a laptop, tablet, or smart phone. Their assignments can be viewed on the dashboard of the theory website, or on Powerschool. Please be sure students are completing assignments in a timely manner.
