Shared Learning
At the Ambrose Family Center Preschool, our belief in shared learning drives the way in which all adults (stakeholders, staff, and families) work together in support of our children. We are committed to productive conversations, communication, and experiences that put children and their learning first. Further, we are committed to fostering relationships between and among our families by providing opportunities that blend school with home through experiences that reflect and honor the values and cultures unique to each family. In all these efforts, our work is towards authentically sharing together with a sense of well being for all.
Throughout the year we have planned events for our families that celebrate children – what they can teach us and how they learn. Families’ schedules are considered as part of the planning. We will give you advance notice of each event via classroom and program calendars, emails, through postings on our website, as well as sharing the information on our social media outlets (Facebook and Twitter). Please note that some events are designed for families (parents/guardians and children) and others for parents/guardians and staff to listen and learn from one another. Mark your calendars now, and please join us for any or all of the exciting events listed below!
Coffee & Conversation
Our parent coffees are informal gatherings, facilitated by Marty & Merlene, designed with no agenda - just an opportunity for conversation and building connections with each other. Coffee/Tea will be served!

October 23, 4:30 - 5:15pm

Parent/Teacher Conversations
Conferences allow for meaningful exchanges between families and school. Meetings can occur at any time informally and more formally twice a year, in the fall and again in the spring. The fall conference, known as a "Family Chat", is a special time for families to meet with your child’s teacher to begin your year together. Spring conferences allow for a conversation on progress, updates and celebrations. We take pride in having 100% parent/guardian participation at our parent/teacher conferences. Teachers will have sign up sheets available to schedule a time for your family.
Dates and Times:
Family Chats - August 29, 3:30 - 8:30pm & August 30, 7:30 - 11:30am
Spring Conferences - March 10, 12, & 14, 3:30 - 8:30pm
Curriculum Night Series
A series of three Curriculum Nights are planned this year. During the first two, parents participate in "class meetings". Class meetings are a routine part of your child’s day at the Ambrose Family Center Preschool. Come experience a “Parent Class Meeting” with your child’s teachers, and share in a dialogue of ideas about children, preschool, and learning. These are parent only evenings of shared learning.
The final Curriculum Night, SPARK Night, is a joyful, center-wide family event! All learning spaces will be filled with the inspirations of children. Your children will not let you miss this experience!
Dates and Times:
Curriculum Night I - September 5, 6:30 - 7:30pm
Curriculum Night II - February 4, 6:30 - 7:30pm
SPARK Night - April 16, 6:15 - 7:30pm

SPECIAL SERIES: Evenings in the Atelier
You are invited to spend an evening learning in our three new atelier spaces! Ateliers are spaces for researching and discovering theories of children from scribbles on up; a welcoming space for ideas, exploring variations in tools, techniques, materials, and languages with which to express understandings. AFC Preschool will host three evenings for parents/guardians to discover the wonder of the playscape (nature atelier), kitchen (food atelier), and the red room atelier. Come learn about our ateliers and experience, as the children do each day, the pleasure of learning in these unique spaces.
