Updates for the Week
Hello Wilkesboro families! We hope that you’ve enjoyed this beautiful weekend.
Our third and fourth graders got us off to a great start with end of grade testing last week, and this week we will continue testing across the grades and subjects. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, all fifth grade students will take end of grade tests. On Tuesday, third grade will take the math test and on Thursday, fourth grade will take their math test. Parents, please make sure your child is well-rested and arrives at school on time. Students have worked hard this year, and we anticipate good results. Please be advised that on testing days we sometimes have to adjust the lunch, encore, and recess schedule.
We are also thrilled to welcome families into the school to celebrate the accomplishments of our students. Our weekly #WE Rise page has full details, but we’d like to remind you to arrive a little early to check in on the front sidewalk, make sure you are wearing a mask, be respectful of social distancing, and limit your child’s guests to 4 people. Our awards programs will take place in the gym, and as groups change quickly, please be mindful to exit the gym at the back to make room for the next group.
While the NC Governor’s guidelines regarding masks were updated last week, please note that masks are still required for all people at all times while inside the building and while on school transportation.
It’s not too late to sign up for summer school, but we ask that you return forms as soon as possible so we can plan.
We’ve got a big surprise coming for students next week, so please be on the lookout on Tuesday for information about our upcoming field day.
Please check below for a short family survey about our school. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and your feedback helps. You can learn more about what’s happening in your child’s classroom on our weekly #WE Rise page here: https://www.smore.com/s8xym
It’s a busy week, but we are glad for another school week together and especially happy that we get to share some of our end of year celebrations with you. Thanks again for all that you have done to help us have a healthy, happy school year. We couldn’t have done it without your help! Thank you and have a great evening!
Please join us for End of Year Celebrations in the Gym
In a year of many challenges, we are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our school family. We are excited that we can invite families into our school building for this special event. NCDHHS guidelines are still very strict regarding schools, so here are some guidelines we must follow.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time to check in. Parking is always tight, but you may park in the front or back lots or at the Civic Center. Please do not park in the bus parking lot and please do not block the driveway.
All visitors must wear masks at all times while inside buildings. If you won’t wear a mask, we ask that you do not attend.
We must limit visitors to 4 guests per student.
All visitors must arrive and check in through the office for awards and use hand sanitizer. Visitors will walk down the hallway to the gym at awards time.
All visitors must stay with their family group and stay socially distanced from others while in the school building. We will have chairs set up in the gym with social distancing in mind and must clean between groups.
All visitors must exit the building through the gym doors to the back parking lot.
Parents may take students home after awards if desired, but they must check out the child from the child’s teacher.
Visitors must visit only the gym during the event. Due to health and safety protocols, visitors cannot visit classrooms, playgrounds, or other areas of the school during these school visits.
We are so happy to celebrate with your family during these end of year events. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!

About Attendance
Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and submits work each day, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.
For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
