GOODNOE GAZETTE
December 2, 2022
I hope that you enjoyed a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends! We had a successful conference marathon that provided an opportunity for parents and teachers to continue the important partnership of supporting our children. On behalf of the GES Staff I would like to thank the PTO and all families that contributed to the amazing and delicious dinner during the late evening of conferences. Everyone was so appreciative and very touched by your continued thoughtfulness.
I would also like to express appreciation for the families who generously donated to our Thanksgiving Food Drive. We set the goal to collect 1000 pounds of food. I am happy to share that not only did our GES community meet this goal but we exceeded it in an impressive way with a total collection of 3200 pounds of food! Wow! Sixth grade won an extra recess for collecting the most pounds of food. I would like to thank Mrs. Day and Mrs. Holder for packaging and delivering our donation to the Food Pantry of Lower Bucks County. This large donation was a collective effort made by our incredible community to help others in need. Thank you!
This month is always an exciting time for our students! The thought of winter break is not far from their minds and discussions about upcoming plans are frequently shared! We take part in their joy of this fun season with planned musical concerts, classroom winter parties and themed activities. We also realize the importance of structure and routine for our students. We will continue to implement expectations for work and behavior. Your support is important in reinforcing this message at home in effort to maintain students' focus as we move through the month. In advance, thank you for partnering with us!
Have a great weekend!
Beth

Rocky Wall of Fame Winners
Each day at school, a Rocky’s Wall of Fame sticker is given to at least 10 different students when recognized for meeting expectations for being Respectful, Responsible, and/or Safe. When students receive a Rocky’s Wall of Fame sticker, they are called at the end of the day to the board outside the office to select a randomly numbered star. Their name is then written on that star and placed on the board in the numbered space that corresponds with the number on the star. When at least 10 stars line up in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally), those students whose stars are in that row win a reward. The board is then cleared and we begin filling it again. Congratulations to those winning students! We continue to be proud of so many students who make good choices!

DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#

PLEASE CHECK OUT THE LOST AND FOUND
Kisses for Kyle Foundation
The staff at GES are participating in the Kisses for Kyle Foundation’s Annual Holiday Gift Drive. Through this amazing program we were able to purchase gifts to brighten the holidays for many children in the Delaware Valley who are battling cancer.
Below is more information on how the Kisses for Kyle Foundation began. You can also check out their website for more information https://kissesforkyle.org
In 1998, Kyle Snyder was just three weeks shy of his second birthday when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. After a brave but brief eight-month fight, he lost his life to cancer.
In 2001, his mother Sharon founded The Kisses for Kyle Foundation to honor Kyle’s memory and to assist families in the Delaware Valley region who are battling childhood cancer.
One in every 285 children will develop cancer. While we cannot take away this diagnosis, we can help alleviate extra stresses by providing financial assistance and special experiences the entire family can cherish. It is our mission to make a positive impact on local families fighting the same fight the Snyders fought, and in Kyle’s beautiful memory.

STEAM Special Update
The STEAM Lab has been busy and students are excited to come to the lab to learn and collaborate with their classmates! All students from first to sixth grade engaged in a STEAM Special orientation unit as they learned just what STEAM is and what they will do and learn in the STEAM Lab. Now the classes are moving on to new projects.
The classes will rotate through a variety of projects during the rest of the year. All students will explore digital fabrication with programs such as FabMaker Studio. Our first and second graders will learn about chemical engineering as they investigate what makes a good modeling dough. Third graders will learn about civil engineering as they explore bridge designs and build some of their own. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders will be learning about aerospace engineering as they work together to design parachutes.
All classes will also build their computer programming skills through different activities, projects, and lessons. We hope families can join the fun during Computer Science Education Week, which takes place the week of December 5-11. Check out Hour of Code for Parents for information about how you can support your children in learning coding and other computer science concepts.
Reading Tidbits & Tips
So Many Genres, So Little Time!
Genre of the month, Realistic Fiction. A genre of stories that are made up but could very well happen in real life. These stories often take place in settings familiar to your child — like schools — which makes them more relatable.
Notes from the Music Room
We have had a very musical couple of weeks here at GES! The 5th grade members of our Goodnoe Singers (GOODS) made their performance debut when they sang for the Veterans and our 6th Grade GOODS members made their debut at Chancellor Center singing for the administrative team. If you would like to hear our talented Goodnoe Singers perform, mark your calendar for the Winter Concert on December 14th, 7pm at Newtown Middle School. Our entire school has been filling the hallways with our favorite THANK-YOU songs in honor of the holiday. Here is a link to share some of our songs and activities with the entire family: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1jkAXBJuEWfgUyzUSk0fu60Jmva4ZjEGhRrE8uYv6-nA/edit?usp=sharing

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
FAMILY TRIP FORMS
Click the following LINK for the form to be completed for Family Educational Trips. Handwritten letters are accepted, however this form is preferred. Please be sure to submit the form/letter at least ten (10) days prior to your trip, for approval. This can be sent to school with your child or emailed electronically to Mrs. Susan Bogucki at SBogucki@CRSD.org
Goodnoe PTO Holiday Shop 2022
Our Goodnoe Holiday Shop is just around the corner! As a special service to our students, the PTO sponsors a fun opportunity for your child to shop for their own gifts to give family and friends. During school hours, classes will be called down to the gymnasium during their assigned class times to pick out the perfect gift for everyone. We have goodies for everyone – mom, dad, aunt, grandmom, grandpa, brother, sister and pets. Our gifts are priced from $0.75 to $12 with the majority of items between $3.00 to $8.00.
Use the envelope being sent home with your child this Friday to help guide and budget all their shopping goals, deciding ahead of time who your child would like to shop for and how much to approximately spend per person. Volunteers will be on hand to help the students shop.
There will be a “PREVIEW NIGHT” the night before Holiday Shop opens. This can be a great opportunity to check out all the gift options before your child’s class shops. Stop by during “Preview Night” if your child would like a quieter shopping experience or more time to browse the selection.
This event will not happen without volunteers. Please sign up for any and all time slots that will work for your schedule. We need 20 volunteers during all shopping hours. You must stay to help others shop, not just your child. Please head to our sign up genius to volunteer today! See below for approximate shopping times for each class, subject to change for the needs of the day.
Any questions can be directed to our PTO at HolidayShop@gespto.org
