VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 4 TERM 3 2020
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE COURAGEOUS'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Courageous'.
To be courageous we want our learners to give everything a go, be a risk taker, stick up for themselves, think of their own solutions, try new things, offer opinions and ideas, join in with others, and to be their own person.
SCHOOL GOAL: Being 'open' to new learning!
WHAT: Being prepared to learn new ‘skills’ at school this term!
WHY: To understand that learning never stops
To know that I am capable of learning new things
Being open to learn in all areas – socially, academically and emotionally
I can improve myself by being open to new ideas
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You are keen to ‘take on’ new learning and use this learning to develop your skills
You want to learn new things – you are a sponge and might go on to research more!
Even if it is not a subject you like, you are still keen to learn and develop your skills
You are always improving and developing your skills with new learning.
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been a strange end to the week with a lot of anxiety and emotions floating round from our learners, staff and whanau with the announcement of moving to Level 2. It is a bit sad that we are back in Level 2, however, we have been there before, we know what to do and we will 'crush' this virus again.
Our biggest concern at Vogeltown is to keep everyone safe and happy. The way we react and behave during this time, will be closely watched and mimicked by our kids. We are working hard to keep everything at Vogeltown as normal as can be.
There is going to be an announcement made this afternoon at 5:30pm by the Prime Minister, and we should know more about the alert levels over this weekend and in to next week. Hopefully we stay in Level 2.
If we do move to Level 3, then we are prepared as a school. We have done this before.
We are sending home 'hard learning packs' tonight with your child. This will be in a clear, re-sealable bag. This does not need to be opened this weekend, it is only there 'should' we move to Level 3 and we need some work for our learners to do next week. A massive thanks to the Vogeltown team for putting these packs together.
If Level 3 is announced tonight or over the weekend, there will be an email, Facebook, Seesaw and Skool Loop notification sent out over the weekend with two survey links asking for 2 things:
Survey 1: Whether you are an essential worker and if your child(ren) will be attending Vogeltown during Level 3. This will help us sort 'bubbles' and staffing
Survey 2: Whether your child(ren) require a school device to do remote online learning.
Once we collate this information, we will be able to plan for next week.
Devices will be able to picked up from the senior school on Monday - under Level 3 restrictions, parents can come to the school (social distancing of course) to pick up devices.
Have a great weekend with your families whanau. Be kind, be safe, be aware.
Aroha nui,
Mr O
A TIMELY REMINDER...
