6th Grade SAGE
Review and Prep
Test Practice
There isn't a replacement for great instruction, but brushing up and reviewing skills is always top of mind this time of year. If you are going to prepare for EOL and SAGE tests, consider aligning your practice with what is expected. Use the 50 items and percentages of each type of question from the blueprint below as a guide.
SAGE Proficiency Levels
Use the SAGE Proficiency Levels to ensure you are teaching to the depth required for each standard. Remember that up to 82% of the SAGE assessment will be at a DOK level 2 or 3!
Remember Core Areas
Remember the priority areas of your core will be the most heavily tested areas. If you can't cover everything, remember to focus your time and energy here.
In Grade 6, instructional time should focus on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.

Testing Vocabulary
It isn't important to memorize every word or phrase that might be used in testing yet students should be familiar with grade-appropriate testing vocabulary.
Test Taking Key Words and High Frequency Standardized Testing Words might be a useful review for you or your students.
Core Academy Lessons
These lessons were designed at the Core Academies. They can be great lessons on skills your kids need more instruction with. Don't let the older dates fool you - there's a lot of good stuff here! They are Utah Core aligned and tend to have high DOK levels.
