NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Conferences, which starts on February 4, are a great opportunity to meet face to face with your child’s teacher. There are many good sites that list ways for teachers and parents to prepare for conferences. Here are some: www.hfrp.org https://www.understood.org and www.nea.org (go to the parents’ pull down menu). The hfrp site offers a brochure with several good tips on parents’ relationship with schools in addition to tips on parent teacher conferences.
One conference per student please. In other words, we are hoping that all parents can schedule a conference for their child with both parents sitting at the same table.
One change we’re making is in 5th grade. In the past, due to departmentalization (kids switching for different subjects) we lengthened the conference time for 5th grade parents so the teachers could see all the students they teach. However, as class size has increased to 28, 28, & 27, and 83 total students, this has become difficult. We are now switching to 20” conferences and parents will only see their child’s homeroom teacher. However, the teachers will provide information about each student.
Please take some time to schedule your conferences using pickatime that’s referenced in the Gator Tales.
ON ANOTHER SUBJECT:
Now that we have snow on the field, children will need snow pants and boots to go on the snow.
