Squanto's Life
Squanto was born around 1580 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He grew up in a Native American tribe who lived around present day Massachusetts. In 1805 Squanto was captured by an English settler named George Weymouth. He got taken to England, where he learned English. Squanto returned in 1619 now fluent in English. He helped the Pilgrims survive in America after he returned home. He was very helpful to them because he spoke fluent English. He told them what plants and animals to eat, and how to grow crops successfully in America’s climate. He was a big help in starting the United States of America.
