Principal's Corner
From the Principal's Desk
Wow! It is already January. Our school year has essentially reached the halfway point. Where did the time go? As we begin this second semester, we also begin our time of planning and preparation for the 2021-22 school year.
Our School Commission and our staff Social Media / Marketing Team are working hard on developing plans to market St. Louis Catholic School in a variety of ways. We know this is important as we prepare for the upcoming enrollment period, but we also realize that this needs to be an ongoing process in order to sustain an active presence in our community, with area parishes, and even our alumni. While there may be additional ways for you to help us in these efforts forthcoming, one of the easiest is through your personal stories shared with family, friends and even co-workers. Another is simply sharing our Facebook posts to help us reach a larger audience.
A big thank you to those who have agreed to be part of one of our video clips and sharing the role St. Louis Catholic School has played in your child's educational journey.
Catholic School Week 2021
This year Catholic Schools Week runs from January 31- February 6. Our committee is busy putting the finishing touches on our plans for celebrating with other schools across our nation. The theme for this year's Catholic Schools Week is Faith. Excellence. Service.
We would love all of our students to wear their school uniform to mass that Weekend. We will also be asking students to take reading parts at mass as well. Our daily themes are:
Sunday: Focus on our Parish
Monday: Focus on our Community
Tuesday: Focus on our Students
Wednesday: Focus on our Nation
Thursday: Focus on Vocations
Friday: Focus on our Staff
Saturday: Focus on our Family
More defined plans will be shared about each day once we have them all ironed out, but please join us in celebrating the great things Catholic schools do in the education field across our nation and more specifically the wonderful things St. Louis Catholic School has done.
Reminders:
Jan. 19 - Elearning day for students. They do NOT come to school.
Jan. 30 - Free dress Friday for our students and staff.
As we begin this new year and enter back into Ordinary time on our liturgical calendar, I hope that we may each recognize Christ in the "ordinary" happenings of our day. May we take his lead from today's gospel reading and find a quiet place for prayer, so that our ordinary can turn into extraordinary as we spend time with Him.
God bless,
Mrs. Patty Mauer

Breakfast Program
At school, there's always a meal ready to be served! Some mornings, it's tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to our School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards. Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child's menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!
Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:55 each morning in the SLS cafeteria. The cost for breakfast is $1.50.

How to Prioritize Self-Care in 2021
Whether you’re a professional caregiver working 9 to 5, a dedicated family member taking care of someone you love around the clock, or your caregiving responsibilities look a little different than what is typical, it’s vital to remember that your well-being matters as well. Here are three basic, proactive actions you can take to help ensure that the care you give doesn’t wear you down:
Add the Good
As a caregiver, you’re probably an expert at making sure the ones in your care get what they need, when they need it. So, why not do the same for yourself? Something as simple as penciling in a 10-minute walk every day after dinner or swapping cookies for apples on your grocery list may make a big difference in both long-term health and short-term attitude.
Subtract the Bad
Sometimes we need more than adding good habits to develop a better path towards well-being. This year, work on ditching some of your bad habits too! This could be as simple as opting for a book or podcast instead of scrolling endlessly on your phone, or as tough as quitting smoking. Another option? Try taking control of your environment by creating a cleaner and less cluttered space. Setting tasks like a closet clean out or a deep clean of your home can help set you up for success and a better mindset going into the new year. Could getting rid of unworn clothes or crossing off those annoying chores increase your overall well-being? Only one way to find out!
Don't Go at It Alone
If you only take one thing away from this article, it should be this: It’s okay to ask for help before you need it. Think of it this way: you don’t start looking for a gas station when your tank’s empty — you fill up before you’re stranded on the shoulder of the road. Though asking for help can feel difficult and even uncomfortable, it’s a sign that you’re prioritizing your self-care and well-being. A proactive approach like this is important for you and those you care for, as it puts you in the best mental and physical state possible. If you’re feeling like your needle’s approaching empty, reach out and ask for help.
Here's to a happy and healthy 2021!!
