Update from our Health Office
Hard to believe October is coming to a close! With anticipated changes coming in our weather we do remind parents to make sure their children are dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Layers are great this time of year as our temperature fluctuations can be tough to plan on.
Current Illnesses:
We are seeing colds with coughs. still some seasonal allergy issues, stomach virus and we have had cases of the “Coxsackievirus” also known as “Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease” reported here at school. This is a common childhood virus. It may present with a fever and blister like rash that you may notice in the mouth, on hands, feet and sometimes the genital or buttocks area. Toddlers and younger children are still very “oral” so it is quite easy to spread among this age group and with siblings/family members. It can however occur in older children as well.
**AS ALWAYS good hand washing is the best prevention for all viral illness. Cleaning of shared toys and common surfaces is important. Students should be kept home with fever or any rash that presents with blisters that are open or raw.
Please consult your pediatrician with any unusual body rashes; as there are many viruses that present with rashes.
Students may return to school when they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol/Ibuprofen and are comfortable.
WATER BOTTLES: Please send a RE-FILLABLE water bottle to school daily, to avoid direct use of bubblers.
CLOTHING CHANGES: We continue to have a large amount of students needing a change of clothes here at school for various reasons. PLEASE make sure your child has an extra set of their own clothing in their lockers for emergencies. This makes a potentially uncomfortable experience for students quick and easy to deal with. We ask for all ages- grades PreK- grade 5!!
IT is that time of year to make sure you all get a FLU VACCINE!! Contact your Primary Care Physicians to check on clinic times.
A reminder that 4th Grade Physicals are due-individual reminders will be sent out next week for those students that have not turned in a copy of their most recent-up to date Physicals.

Adopt-a-Family
It is that time of year again, and the Tyngsborough Public School’s sponsored Adopt-A-Family program is beginning its annual efforts as we approach the 2017 holiday season.
The Adopt-A-Family program has been in existence for over forty years and provides assistance to needy families within our community during the holidays. The continued goal of the program is to assist those in need within our community by providing a meal, as well as gifts for children and teens who might otherwise go without. Last year this Adopt-A-Family program was able to assist over 100 needy families and elderly with help from students in our schools, private citizens and a few community businesses. This year will be no different, times continue to be difficult for a growing number of families.
In order to continue to provide assistance, we are reaching out to community members and businesses in the greater community for support. At this time the program is in need of the following:
- Family and children sponsors, please email our Family Liaison Melissa Mallous at Melissa.Mallous@tyngsboroughps.org
- Gift cards to local businesses (Walmart, Target, Market Basket, Old Navy, etc.)
- AAF Gift Basket Raffle - Purchase raffle tickets - AAF tickets can be purchased in the main office of TES, TMS and THS beginning November 6, 2017. The raffle will end on December 7, 2017 and the winters will be announced on December 8, 2017.
- Monetary donations (checks made out to Tyngsborough High School, memo: Adopt A Family Program) can be sent to Tyngsborough Public Schools, 50 Norris Road, Tyngsborough, MA 01879, ATTN: Sharon Fairbanks
If you are interested and able to make a donation, sponsoring a child/family yourself, or as a group, or offering support in another way, please contact one of the Adopt-A-Family committee members listed below. We look forward to establishing new partnerships within our community. Your contribution, along with the combined efforts and generosity of many, will ensure another successful season of giving for our neighbors in need.
Warm regards,
Sarah Lewenczuk Melissa Mallous

Family Engagement Survey
Each year the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) asks parents from select school districts to participate in a survey to measure how well schools are promoting Family Engagement as a way to improve services and results for children with disabilities. It’s our district’s turn this year.
Families that have students receiving special education services are encouraged to complete the survey below. Your feedback is appreciated.
