Health Update

Decreased COVID-19 Positivity Rates

For several weeks our district has seen significant and sustained declines in COVID-19 positivity rates and there has not been an outbreak in our schools since lifting the mask mandate (an outbreak is defined as five or more positive and/or probable cases tied to an original case). Health officials have shared they estimate about 90% of Coloradans have developed immunity, whether through natural infection or vaccination. Staff and students have been respectful and caring as people continue to make choices for themselves and their families around masks.

Reminder of COVID-19 Protocols

Our district continues to work closely with Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) to stay informed on COVID-19 cases in the county, district, and our schools. Jeffco Public Schools will continue to do the following:

  • Encourage the layering of mitigation strategies
  • 5-day isolation still required for individuals who test positive
    • All students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 will continue to be required to isolate at home and stay away from others for five days. Upon return, it is highly recommended that individuals wear their masks at school for the following five days.
  • Quarantines still required as outlined in our quarantine/isolation protocol guidelines
  • Encourage regular COVID-19 testing
    • Free testing will continue to be available through our Mobile Health testing hubs. Regardless of vaccination status, asymptomatic staff and students may test weekly at any hub.
  • Continue to stay home if you develop symptoms
    • In addition, be sure to keep your student at home if they develop symptoms. Please notify your student’s school if your student develops any of the symptoms listed below or if they test positive for COVID-19.
    • Staff should notify their supervisor and stay home if symptoms develop.
  • Major symptoms include:
    • New or unexplained persistent cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Loss of taste and smell
  • Minor symptoms include:
    • Feeling feverish, having chills, or a temperature of 100.0 F or greater
    • Sore throat
    • Runny nose or congestion
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • Fatigue

Please consider using masks if returning to school following an illness until all symptoms resolve.
