Principal Corner
Dear Cleveland Families,
We’ve had some successful days at the start of this very different school year. I want to thank staff, students, and parents for the extra effort that has been necessary to have our students learning in person. It’s been worth it, as we’ve really enjoyed seeing our students back at school!
There are a few things to keep in mind as we move forward here in the 1st quarter of the year. It is expected that students wear their masks at school and on the bus. It’s one of the ways we can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools. It is recommended that students have two cloth masks available so there’s one to wear at school while the other one is brought home to be washed. We also ask that you avoid dropping your child off at school before 7:40 as there is no supervision prior to that. At 7:40 students are brought into the school where they are spread out in the hallways until the bell rings at 7:55.
This year’s fall Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held virtually. This is another item that will look different than what we are used to. More information will be coming, so stay tuned!
As we all know, this school year will challenge us and present opportunities for everyone to demonstrate perseverance, grit, and determination. Because of that we will work through everything together, learn new skills, gain confidence, and support each other for the benefit of our Cleveland Cubs! Please contact us at school if you have any questions or if we can help in any way. We’re happy to partner with you to provide a rich educational experience for your child.

Seesaw
As a part of the Sioux Falls School District Return to Learn plan our students, teachers, and families will have a new digital platform, SeeSaw. Seesaw supports strong relationships between teachers, students, and families. Together, we can support and celebrate your child’s learning inside and outside the classroom! In the classroom, students and teachers will be engaging in lessons and activities. At home, you have the opportunity to communicate with teachers as well as provide feedback on your students’ achievements. When teachers and families work together, outcomes improve.
What are the benefits of utilizing Seesaw as a family member?
- Makes your child’s thinking and learning visible so we can see and celebrate their growth over time
- Opens communication between home and school, so we can share ideas to best support your child’s learning at home and at school
- Gives your child an authentic audience for their work -- you! -- which motivates them to do their best
- Watch this video to better understand SeeSaw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzlrtDR84KY&list=PLb__lPS6CQsCW4SeTVNteuxl481xhUTHv
Your student’s teacher will provide information on how to access your student’s account via SeeSaw. There are multiple ways of connecting, therefore, you may receive an email, a text, or piece of paper with a QR code. By following the instructions for connecting and using the SeeSaw Family app, you become a part of our learning team!
Children's Connection
At Cleveland, we are lucky enough to be able to participate in Children’s Connection.
This group is only for children who have a family member in jail or prison – now or in the past. An outside counselor comes to Cleveland each week to meet with students in a small group setting, spilt up by grade level, to discuss feelings and emotions that come when a family member is incarcerated. Children also receive support and encouragement and learn to make good choices. Confidentiality is respected and this is free to families. The group meets during lunch in a separate area from the lunchroom.
If you would like to sign your child up for this group, or have further questions, please call the school at 367-6150. You can either request for more information to be sent home or ask to speak with one of the counselors, Ms. Steever or Mrs. Jones
