Bond 2023

In January, the BISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved calling for a bond referendum for $321,500,000 with NO INCREASE TO THE TAX RATE.

The proposal includes building two new elementary campuses and classroom expansion at Bastrop High School, Cedar Creek High School, Colorado River Collegiate Academy/Genesis High School and Mina Elementary. It also addresses safety and security at all campuses by adding additional cameras and devices. The bond would also build a facility to house the BISD Police Department, as well as maintenance and operations, groundskeeping and custodial operations. It allows for $30 million dollars to be used for major capital improvements across the District.

View the general flyer or visit bisdtx.org/bond2023 for more information, including an educational presentation. Stay tuned to the district's social media as we continue to inform our parents and community members about the 2023 bond.

Early voting is April 24 through May 2. Election Day is May 6.

Not sure if you're registered to vote? Visit www.votetexas.gov to find out or to register.

High School Students Offered "Test Kitchen" Lines

FUN FACT! Cedar Creek and Bastrop high schools have a Test Kitchen completely separate from the normal serving and ordering lines that offers a unique food option not on the regular menu. The Test Kitchen offers a new meal each week ranging from Texas classics like carnitas and BBQ sandwiches to top ramen.

Aramark recently served Fish & Carnitas Tacos, Pulled Pork & Smoked Chicken BBQ sandwiches, and Spaghetti with Chicken Meatballs & Penne Pasta with Diced Chicken and Alfredo sauce (pictured below)

The goal of the Test Kitchen is to introduce students to new, exciting flavors and show them that eating healthy can be tasty!

Social Emotional Learning

What are the students learning?

After Spring Break, students spent a few days reviewing campus-wide expectations. Starting this week, Elementary students began learning responsible decision-making and problem solving skills, while Intermediate and Middle School students took a deeper dive into managing relationships and social conflicts. High School students explored how to create habits and improve habits.

Families looking to engage their students around these topics can ask questions like:

  • What are you learning during SEL time this week?
  • What are some clues your body might give you when are having strong emotions?
  • What are some ways that strong emotions impact your ability to make decisions?
  • What are some ways you can be helpful at______ (home, school, community)?
