The fifth amendment
The fifth amendment states that no one can be tried for the same case twice.
Supreme Court Case
In the Supreme Court case BlockBurger v. United States, the Fifth Amendment was tested. The Supreme Court declared that if an act breaking two laws is committed you may be charged on both of them but on separate cases. This bypasses the Fifth Amendment's double jeopardy.
