This Week in Religious Education

What is happening for children, youth, and families at OUUC

Families and Youth and the Search Process

The Ministerial Search Committee wants families and youth to know how they can connect with the search process. Right now the committee is gathering input from the congregation - and that includes everyone, of all ages!

If you haven't already completed the Survey, please take some time this week to do so! Youth can complete this survey from their point of view. The Search Committee will be closing the survey on Friday of this week, do it now!

Mark your calendars for youth and family cottage meetings with the Search Committee:

  • Middle School Group meeting September 23rd, 11am
  • High School Group meeting September 23rd, 12:30pm
  • Family meeting, childcare provided, September 30 12:30pm

Middle School Summer Party, August 18th 3:30

Big picture

All Middle School youth (rising 6th graders to 9th graders) and their families are invited to a summer party at Kenneydell Park on August 18th, 3:30-6pm. We have the Ridge Shelter reserved.

There is a swim area here on Black Lake, so bring suits and floats if you want to swim (no lifeguard is being provided from OUUC).

Also bring food or drink to share, and to reduce waste please bring your own reusable dishes, utensils, and cups.

This Sunday's Classes

For the summer months, we will only have nursery care for the 9:15 service.

At the 11:00 service, there will be nursery care and the Maker Space class for preschool to 5th grade. Each Sunday features a Guest Maker from the congregation and then time for hands on making, tinkering, crafting, and having fun.

Our Whole Lives for 7th-8th Grades Parent Orientation (Mandatory)

Wednesday, Sep. 19th, 6:30-9pm

2315 Division Street Northwest

Olympia, WA

Our Whole Lives is a comprehensive, holistic, values-based sexuality education program. Learn more at:

This year the 7th-8th grade program will be offered on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm. It is a school-year long program. All 7th and 8th graders (or the homeschooled equivalent) are welcome, whether or not they attend OUUC or are Unitarian Universalists. Class size is limited to 16 participants, email to reserve a spot.

Parents or legal guardians must attend the mandatory Parent Orientation or make arrangements in advance to meet with our Director of Religious Education, Sara Lewis, for a make-up orientation. Dinner will be provided, youth do not need to attend. Contact Sara if you need to arrange childcare.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

The New Church Year is Coming Fast! We still need some volunteers ....

1) The Labyrinth Learning Class, for 1st-5th grade, needs 5 more assistants to join the team. This class is taught/led by our staff teacher, Anisa Bentlemsani. Assistants help with classroom management and run “stations” with activities that kids can choose among.

The time commitment is once a month, signing up for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Sundays. To apply, please talk to our DRE, Sara Lewis, or 360.786.6383

2) The High School Youth Group needs 3-4 more advisors. The High School Group meets at 12:30 on the 2nd and the 4th Sundays of the month, and plans occasional other events, overnights, and field trips. Advisors work with our DRE, Sara Lewis, to guide, facilitate, and chaperone the youth.

The time commitment is about once a month, and the preference is for volunteers to make a commitment of more than one year for the purpose of long-term mentorship and relationship building. To apply, please talk to our DRE, Sara Lewis, at or 360.786.6383
