Dear Parents,
We were happy to see so many of you at the Open House/Big Art Day last night! I bet your children made you very proud. They make me proud every day!

This honor is bestowed on Skaggs students who consistently demonstrate the core values and vision of our school. They are identified as someone who embraces differences, challenges minds, and strives for excellence. They model respect and responsibility for the other boys and girls at Skaggs.

2017-2018 Federal and State School Report Cards
The 2017-2018 School Report Cards for Skaggs Elementary has now been released, and posted to the school website- https://www.pisd.edu/skaggs_ar. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures. The information contained in the School Report Card is described in the “School Report Card Definitions.” The Federal Report Card is also available at https://tea.texas.gov/FRC.aspx. If you have any questions concerning the School Report Cards, please let us know.

We are excited about the refurbishment which we have begun already. We will be getting new flooring, bathroom areas, lockers, paint, furniture, and much more by the start of next school year.

History Fair
It is time once again to prepare for the Elementary History Fair. Though participation in this annual event is voluntary, we want to encourage interested students to take advantage of this opportunity to exhibit their knowledge and understanding of history.
-Theme is Triumph and Tragedy
-4th and 5th grade only
-Projects are due in the classroom by 7:45 on March 20th
-Judging will happen on March 21st
-Categories are display, multimedia, or performance
-Expository essay must accompany each entry, but there is not a required length
-Entries can be individual or group (2-4)

Kindergarten Roundup March 22, 2019 9:00 am-11:00 am and 1:00 pm-3:00 pm
If you have a child who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019, you are welcome to enroll your child for Kindergarten at Skaggs! Your child does NOT need to be present to enroll
Registration packets can be found at www.pisd.edu/ef or will be available at registration. Please bring the following documents:
- · Original Birth Certificate
- · Immunization Records
- · Proof of Residence (Gas, Electric or Water Bill)
- · Parent’s Driver’s License or Passport
- · Child’s Social Security Card if available
Tips for Parents for Online Safety
· Have general discussions about things your child may have seen online.
· Explain that many things that happen online can be misleading or frightening.
· Encourage your child to tell a trusted adult if they see something online or on social media that is scary or hurtful.
· Make sure your child knows that it is not okay to communicate with or follow directions from strangers online.
· Never reveal personal information, such as address, phone number, or school name/location.
· Spend time online together to teach your child appropriate online behavior.
· Keep the computer in a common area where you can watch and monitor its use and monitor time spent on smartphones or tablets.
