This week we finalized one of our campus initiatives for the year by having all of our students take the StrengthsFinder assessment. StrengthsFinder is a research-based assessment developed by the Gallup Institute, which helps identify individual's strengths to develop them into skills. Along with discovering their top five strengths, students have access to an online dashboard full of resources that are personalized for them, including a Strengths Insight report. The Insight Report is customized for each student, which can help them learn what their strengths are and how to capitalize on them. Understanding how their strengths manifest can help them at school and in life, as well. We look forward to diving in deeper as the year continues with this valuable resource. This is just another way that CMS is unique and a great place for all of our Colts to be! Have a great weekend!

Counselor’s Corner January 29 – February 2, 2018
8th Grade:
Counselors worked with 8th graders on Thursday and Friday helping them select their endorsement and enter in courses for 9th grade. Students have to use their unique Skyward log in to enter courses.
Students have until February 14th to have courses entered; high school counselors will be here on February 7th to verify courses with students. Parents will need to go into Skyward (using their parent log in, not student’s) to sign off on their student’s endorsement selection. Once parents sign off, the endorsement cannot be changed in Skyward. To get it changed, student will need to meet with their high school counselor. Attached is the 9th grade course sheet.

GCISD has announced the 2018-2019 Transfer Lottery application window will be March 26th - April 20th. The lottery will be held April 27th. The campuses that will be open for the lottery have not been announced yet, but should be identified in late February.
For current 8th graders on an Interdistrict Transfer (students whose address is Colleyville or Grapevine, but they are zoned to another school district), their parent/guardian will need to complete the 2018-19 Transfer Lottery application online by going to the GCISD website, click the Search, and enter Transfers or the link is http://www.gcisd-k12.org/Domain/2763.
Parents of 8th graders, who are residents of GCISD and want to attend a high school other than the one they are zoned to attend, will need to complete an Intradistrict Transfer online application in the 2018-19 Transfer Lottery.
