St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 3 - Term 3 (Thursday 8 August 2019)
Dear Parents and members of our school community
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

Our Sacred Song Lines Upon This Earth - 2nd prize winners
Last term St Jerome’s submitted a collaborative art piece for the inaugural Catholic Liturgical Art Competition, Our Sacred Song Lines Upon This Earth. Year 5 students, Chantelle B and Sophie O, produced a stunning art piece titled The Heavens Belong to the Lord, but the Earth He has Given to His Children and they won 2nd prize in the primary group section for their imagination and creativity. Both girls were presented with their certificates and award by Bishop Don Sproxton after the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral last Sunday. Their artwork was on display at the cathedral across two weekends as part of NAIDOC Week and will now be moved to the Forrest Centre in Perth where it will be on display during the Catholic Arts Angelico Art Exhibition. Please read the artist statement to fully appreciate this beautiful artwork. Congratulations, Chantelle and Sophie!
Artist statement:
Australia. It is our land, our country. When we look around us, all that we see is beauty everywhere. When we look upwards to the sky and see all of the magnificence of the universe above, we know that God has blessed us with the Heavens – a place of mystery, a place of glory, a place that belongs to Him.
In our place on Earth, we live in Noongar country. When we look around us each and every day, all that we see is beauty everywhere. We are surrounded by God’s many gifts who remind us they are there with their song. As custodians of this place, we care for and love these gifts, our nature, in all its splendour. This place belongs to us, His children.
Today four classes recited poetry at the Morley Recreation Centre.

Plastic Bottle Tops Collection
Envision Hands – Collection of Plastic Bottle Tops
Thank you for the many bottle tops dropped into the school for Envision Hands.
To assist in the Envision Hands Project please help by ensuring only clean bottle tops from soft drink, water and milk bottles are the only tops recycled. The plastic ring can be recycled too! Although Envision does try to recycle any plastic it receives, at present their operations can’t fully process these other items.
This is an ongoing project and your tops are happily accepted by dropping them into the box in the front office.
Thank you!
