Definition

It is a virus.

Transmissions

  • Unprotected sex (all kinds)
  • Sharing needles
  • Through blood, semen and breast milk.

Symptoms

  • Extreme weakness and fatigue
  • rapid weight loss
  • frequent fevers that last a long time
  • heavy sweating at night
  • swollen lymph glands
  • white spots in mouth or throat
  • chronic diarrhea
  • a cough that won't go away.

Treatment

It has not cure, but drugs can interfere with it's growth.

Problem

  • weakened immune system
  • more likely to get tuberculosis and otherwise rare diseases of the lung
  • when T cells drop bellow a certain level; opportunistic infections happen.

Pervention

  • You can have it for a long time without realizing.
  • Abstaining from sex
  • Always use latex condoms during intercourse
  • Avoid contact with body fluids
  • Never share needles
