Week In Review

Friday night was a home game against Perkiomen Valley. Unfortunately, though the Falcons fought hard, the Vikings won 34-21. Your pregame performance was a strong one and the staff was very pleased with your effort!

The band spent Saturday in rehearsal. They worked hard from 9AM-3PM and, by the end of rehearsal, they were able to move and play the entire third song! This is a huge accomplishment and puts us in a great place for this week's rehearsals and performances.

Keep up your hard work this week as we get ready for our first competition on Saturday!

Chaperone Sign Ups

Parents interested in chaperoning throughout the season should fill out the "Chaperone Availability Form" as soon as possible.

Please note:

  • NO ONE will be scheduled to chaperone ANY band function (rehearsals, performances, OR fundraisers) without up-to-date clearances. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Signing up for a date does not guarantee that you will chaperone that day. We do our best to rotate through all of our volunteers, giving new and returning parents the opportunity to help with the band.

VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES

We do still need clearances from ALL parent volunteers. They are free for volunteers, you simply need to obtain the clearances. All instructions can be obtained on the district website and all forms are now digital. The district website lists all the instructions for which clearances you may need. Please bring photocopies to Mr. Holladay as soon as possible. CLICK HERE for the link to the district website.

No one will be scheduled to chaperone or assist at ANY rehearsal, performance, OR fundraiser without updated clearances. For the safety of our students, there are NO EXCEPTIONS.

Important Reminder

If you are going to miss any part of a rehearsal or performance, please remember that you must submit a note to Mr. Holladay 2 weeks PRIOR to the scheduled event.

Also, as stated in the Marching Band Handbook, parents are asked to schedule all doctors appointments around the band schedule. The schedule is published far enough in advance to allow you opportunity to make other arrangements for appointments other than rehearsal time. Please utilize Mondays, Wednesdays, and any other afternoon for those appointments.

Fundraiser Updates

We had two successful fundraisers this weekend!

Saturday evening the Music League hosted the "Pottsgrove Music Fest" at Lower. This concert featured the musical talents of Pottsgrove students and recent alumni. This enjoyable event was coordinated by Mr. Robles, Andrew Zammetti, Mrs. Zammetti, Mrs. Marazas, and their team of parent volunteers. A big thank you also goes to the groups who performed!

Sunday morning, the band woke up early to host a delicious pancake breakfast at the Loft at Landis Creek! A huge thank you goes to Mr. Dorris and his staff at Landis Creek for hosting us and providing all the pancakes and sausage! Mrs. Dorris and Mrs. Marazas planned the event and ensured it ran smoothly! A special thank you to the parents and students who got up extra early on their day off to help with this fundraiser!

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported one - or both! - of these events! We appreciate your support!

T-Shirt Bill

All orders for t-shirts and sweatshirts were distributed on Thursday and at tonight’s rehearsal. We also gave students a physical copy of their bill. Payments for shirts, shoes, and water jugs are due by Thursday, October 1. You do not need to wait until October to pay for your items. Partial payments are also accepted prior to the October 1 deadline.

Collegiate Marching Band Festival TIckets

If you ordered tickets for the Collegiate Band Festival, payment is due by Thursday, October 1. Please put your payment in an envelope with your name on the front. If you are paying by check, please make checks payable to: “Pottsgrove Music League PTA.” Tickets are $10.

Band Pictures

PORTRAITS WITH PRIDE will be taking individual band pictures on Thursday, October 15, from 3:00 - 6:30 PM. Each band member must make sure they are signed up for a time to be photographed. We ask that you arrive early in order to change into your uniform. Siblings should sign up for adjacent time slots. This will help in scheduling and will allow siblings to also have the chance to be photographed together in one or two shots.

You do NOT need to purchase any photos, but everyone must be photographed. The photographers will return on October 27 from 5 PM - 9 PM to show the proofs. They will arrange these appointments when the pictures are taken. Your child will be expected to pick a time that is convenient for your family.

Any parents who are willing to come in and view proofs will receive a FREE Photo Button of their student. However, you will not be pressured to buy anything. Any parents who wish to purchase pictures can do so that night and payment is due in full. Your pictures are then mailed to your home in approximately 2-3 weeks.

If you have any questions please contact Mr. Holladay or you can email - orders@portaitswithpride.com.

Text Alerts - Parents

As we approach the hectic time of year with football games and competitions, it is important to maintain a good level of communication with parents and/or guardians. With that in mind, we will start utilizing text alerts to keep you updated if our scheduled time of arrival back at the HS, and other last minute changes need to be communicated quickly. This service will only be used sparingly and when our schedule has been altered. All times will be communicated through the Falcon Call and the online calendar. If you would like to be included on the Text Message Alert list, please follow the instructions below:

To receive messages via text, text: @15pgmbpar to 81010. You can opt-out of messages at anytime by replying: unsubscribe @15pgmbpar.

You MUST include the "@" symbol in order to subscribe properly.

Helpful Hint

The best thing that has been found to clean dirty band shoes is Armor All ® Protectant wipes. They are neat, tidy, and make your shoes look close to new. Please make sure your shoes are always clean prior to ALL performances.

Wawa Hoagie Coupons

We are still accepting orders for Wawa Coupons. In order to place another order, we need 150 tickets. Once we hit that number, we can order them from Wawa.

Contact Amy Marazas with any questions. She can be reached at 215-200-1600 or amarazas77@gmail.com

Alternate Transportation

From your handbook: Any time that it is NECESSARY for a student to take an alternative form of transportation home FROM an away game, competition, or other performance, a note MUST be submitted PRIOR to our departure from Pottsgrove High School. Notes will NOT be accepted after the band has left the high school. There are no exceptions to this rule. Notes must be written and signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian. E-mails will NOT be accepted for this type of permission; it MUST be a note WITH proper signature. If a band parent/guardian is taking another band member home, there must be a note from both students’ parent/guardian.

Following the band’s dismissal to load the bus, any students who have followed the proper guidelines MUST check out with Mr. Holladay, and the person responsible for their transportation must be present.

About Us

The band program at Pottsgrove High School forms a vital and important role in the complete high school experience.

Comprised of 55 students in grades 9 through 12, the Falcon Marching band performs at all home and away football games, local events and parades, and competes in the Cavalcade of Band circuit throughout the fall.

In addition to local performances, the ensemble has had several opportunities to perform on the national stage. Over the past ten years, the band has participated in Washington DC's Cherry Blossom Parade, the Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl (San Diego, CA), and the Miss America Parade (Atlantic City, NJ). In December, the band will make its first appearance at the 2015 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta, GA.

For a full schedule of performances, please contact Mr. Victor Holladay, Band Director.
