St. Peter School News
January - 2020
St.Peter School exists to provide a nurturing environment where students become Disciples of Jesus Christ, embrace the love of lifelong learning, and believe in the dignity of all people.
It is Catholic Schools Week! This is always a celebratory time of year as we come together to celebrate Catholic education. During Sunday Mass this past week, Father Mecca shared about the contributions Catholic education has made to our country. When society did not make education universally accessible to all, the church did. In the 19th and 20th centuries when immigrant children were largely overlooked by the public school system, religious brothers and sisters took up the cause. To this day, Catholic schools are a great arm of the Church's outreach to demonstrate God's love. At St. Peter School, a number of events have been planned to celebrate our parish, our students, our staff, and our families. We observe the week with Masses, an open house and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, we focus on the value Catholic education provides to our student. Thank you for supporting Catholic School education at St. Peter School. We know that you send your children here to grow academically, spiritually, and emotionally. We appreciate the trust you place in us every day.
Drop-off and Pick-up Update:
From my observation, the drop-off and pick-up procedure is working as expected. We thank you for waiting in your car until your child is brought to you. This keeps the line moving. We thank you for posting your vehicle tag. This makes the transition from school to car manageable. Thank you for driving cautiously in the parking lot and not being on your cell phone. This ensures the safety of all. Finally, thank you for your patience. We continue to hone our system to make it more efficient daily.
Clothing/Lost and Found:
We have a lot of lost clothing in our bin in the main office. If your child is missing something, why not check the bin and see if you can be reunited with your missing belongings?
Enrollment - It is that time of year!
If you have not already re-enrolled your child(ren), please stop by the office and pick up the information you need. Financial aid application opens on February 1 to families who qualify. If you know anyone who is interested in having their child(rem) attend St Peter School, please ask him/her to call the school office at 203-748-2895 and speak to one of the secretaries or ask to speak to me. We would love to show you around!
Winter Reminders
Please be sure your child(ren) are dressed appropriately for the frigid weather with coats, scarves, hats, and gloves/mittens. A sweatshirt is simply not enough to provide protection from the cold weather.
Home School Association
We are in need of parents to attend and be a part of the the HSA. Please come to the next meeting if you are able and learn about upcoming events. We need folks to work on various subcommittees.
Track Coaches/Volunteers
St. Peter School is in need of track coach(es) and volunteers. VIRTUS traning is required as well as back-ground checks. Please contact the school office if you would like to coach or volunteer!
In closing, thank you for your support during the school year. With February on the horizon, the school year is zipping along!
In Christ,
Mary Lou Torre, St. Peter School Principal

Several Parent Nights have also been held since the start of January. The first night focused on Fire and Home Safety and was facilitated by our very own Coach Bill. Just this week, our very own Father Mecca told the story of the blind man in Jericho. Through animated Reader's Theatre, Father shared the famous Bible story with students and parents.
