Dear Wachusett Students and Parents,

Now that we've (hopefully) had a chance to unwind over February break, I wanted to reach out to you with this edition of the Guidance Newsletter to let you know about some upcoming events and inform you about some programming we'll be doing this spring.

In the guidance office we are in the midst of the scheduling process for all current freshmen through juniors. See our Scheduling Page for more details.

Upcoming Guidance Events at WRHS

Presentation to Grade 10 Parents on Drug Screening Program (SBIRT)

Tuesday, March 6th, 6:30-7pm

WRHS Auditorium

On Tuesday, March 6th from 6:30pm-7:00pm we will be hosting a presentation for parents of 10th graders on the new SBIRT Drug Screening mandated by the state. We will cover the aspects of the law, information around confidentiality, our procedures for conducting the screening, and opt-out information. There will be time for a Q&A as well.

This event will be held in the WRHS Auditorium and will start sharply at 6:30pm, due to the fact that another presentation will be held shortly after. No RSVP is necessary.

Student Wellness Presentation (Grades 9-12)

Tuesday, March 6th, 7:15-8:15pm

WRHS Auditorium

Today’s teenagers face new and increasingly complex challenges. Here at Wachusett Regional High School, we are committed to having all students maximize their potential and meet the demands of their teen years with success. In addition to fostering academic growth, we wish to provide support, tools and resources to help our students navigate the complex emotional challenges of adolescence. As part of our continuum of programming here at Wachusett, we are offering an Adolescent Wellness presentation that provides an overview of the emotional and developmental challenges that today’s teenagers face. As part of the presentation, we distinguish between typical types of adolescent behavior and those behaviors that may signal the need for professional intervention. We will provide an overview of the programs that we use here in the high school to help students cope with challenging emotions, recommended practices and strategies that parents can use with their teenagers to reduce stress and enhance wellness, and community resources if needed.

In addition to talking about student wellness, we will also review the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program that 9th graders will be exposed to later this spring. It is a continuation of the program that they had last year as 8th graders.

If you have questions or wish to learn more about this presentation, please feel free to contact Dr. Timothy Connors at Timothy_Connors@wrsd.net or myself atJon_Krol@wrsd.net.

No RSVP is necessary.

Junior Parent Presentation on the College Search/Application Process
