Parent, Student, and Teacher Conferences: 10/19 and 10/21
Skyward parent/student/teacher conference sign-ups for 10/19/22 and 10/21/22 are now live.
IHMS fall parent/student/teacher conferences will take place from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, and from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on October 21. Both Wednesday evening and Friday morning are 10 minute open conferences available to any parent wanting to sign-up (first-come, first-serve). However, Friday afternoon - 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. is blocked off for 30 minute team-conferences. Teacher teams define these conference times, and translators are available during this time frame as well.
Please view the linked Google Slides presentation that will walk you through every detail needed to navigate Skyward and select dates/times for conferences. Please note: in order to attend conferences on October 19 or 21, you must schedule your conferences in Skyward ahead of time. If you show up to conferences without a scheduled time, we will be unable to accommodate you. We realize that with only certain time slots available, there may not be one that works for you (or perhaps the teacher's schedule has already been filled). In cases such as this, please work directly with the classroom teacher to schedule a time to conference with them outside of the October dates. You can find staff email addresses here.
A few additional details:
- Please sign up for only one 10 minute conference per teacher. If you need additional time scheduled, please work with the individual teacher to schedule a time outside of the dates/times above.
- Since you have a choice between conferencing in person (at IH) or conferencing via WebEx, please make sure that you carefully read the information found on slides 6 and 7 of the linked presentation regarding how to notify teachers if you plan to attend on WebEx.
- For those that plan to attend their conferences remotely, all staff WebEx addresses can be found in the document linked within the Google Slides presentation (linked above).

Vaccine Exclusion Date
The annual vaccine exclusion date in the state of Kansas was Friday, October 14th. If your student is noncompliant, according to the state of Kansas, you have already been notified via multiple methods. If you have been contacted and have further questions, please reach out to Nurse Radtke as soon as possible so your student does can become vaccination compliant.

Vision and Hearing Screenings
Vision screening was completed for 7th grade students and all 8th grade students new to SMSD on Tuesday, September 27. If your student was absent, they will be tested in the nurse’s office. Referral letters were sent for those students needing further evaluations. If you did not receive one, your student passed the vision test.
Hearing screening will be completed for the same students by the end of November. You will be notified if your student has any hearing issues and needs further evaluation. Again, please notify the nurse if you would like to OPT OUT of hearing screening.

Nursing Notes
Changes of Clothing:
Please have your student bring a change of clothing. They should have plenty of room in their locker to keep backups. Accidents happen and unfortunately, the nurse’s office is running out of clothes.
Texting Students:
If your student texts you to come home and has not been seen by the nurse, it is not automatically excused. Please remind your student to visit the nurse’s office if they are not feeling well.
COVID:
Covid recommendations this year are the same as when school ended in May. It is recommended that a person with 2 or more symptoms be tested for COVID with a PCR or home antigen test. If positive, notify the nurses office and stay home for 5 days. On days 6-10 if symptoms are gone/improving, it is recommended that students mask. Covid + absences are exempt in Skyward and do not count towards total absences.

IHMS 2nd Annual Career Day Is Coming - Your Help Needed
We are hosting our second annual Career Day on November 2nd, from 8:45-11:45 am. Our event will be a small-group fair type format rather than the presentation format from last year. We want to give our students an opportunity to explore a variety of career options. We need volunteers to share about their area of career experience and expertise. If you are interested in volunteering, or know someone who would like to share with our students, fill out this Career Day Volunteer Form.
If you have any questions you may contact Tanner Laird at tannerlaird@smsd.org.
