North Wales Bulletin

From The Principal's Desk
Greetings North Wales Families,
I hope you are preparing for a much deserved holiday break this week. We had such a great time at the Glow Dance on Friday. Thank you to our home and school board for organizing such a fun event!
Safety is of the utmost priority at North Penn School District. We practice fire drills monthly, in substitution of our November monthly fire drill, we will be conducting a Lock Down Drill. In order to ensure preparedness, we will practice ths drill Monday morning. I will send a communication shortly after the drill is complete.
Just a reminder, our latest pathway to reading book is up and posted around the school. The title of the book is "All Are Welcome". I had the pleasure of reading this book in grades K-2 as a mystery reader. Please review more details about the book on our website:
School is closed for the Thanksgiving November 23rd-27th. We will see you Monday. November 28th. Please enjoy this time with family and friends.
I am looking forward to another great week!
Warmly,
Ms. Dana Kenney
Principal

Therapy Dog Coming To North Wales
We are so excited to begin our planning and preparation of our new staff member, our therapy dog Sandy! The plan at North Wales is for the therapy dog to support individual students, small group sessions, as well as visit specific classrooms. Please know that all therapy dogs have been individually trained and certified to provide emotional support, comfort, therapeutic benefits, emotional well-being or companionship to students. Further, therapy dogs are up-to-date on their vaccinations and immunizations. They are also clean, well-groomed, and housebroken.
If you wish for your child to not interact with the therapy dog, please complete the Google Form below.

Announcement From Mrs. Hopf
Suzuki Violin Lessons
The Suzuki Violin Method is offered to Kindergarten, 1st-grade, and 2nd-grade students in North Penn schools. Dr. Suzuki believed that ability is not an inherited trait and that anyone can learn to play an instrument in the same way in which one learns their native language, by imitation.
When: Starting December 2nd (NW)
Where: North Wales' class will be on FRIDAYS from 8:15-8:40 am
Instruments: Provided through an instrument lease program https://www.zeswitzmusic.com
(about $100 for the first 6 months, then $20 a month)
Special instructions: A parent must attend lessons with their child.
Lesson Fee: None! All lessons are free.
Principal Features of the Suzuki Philosophy:
Start at an early age: Young children relate easily to movement and sound.
Use of a well-organized repertoire: Pieces are taken from sources of folk and classical literature, including the works of Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi.
Repetition
Parent involvement during lessons at school and at home
Nurturing environment: Created by the parent and child learning together
Reading of printed music begins in level 2 lessons
How music helps build other areas of success in school:
Encourages higher-level thinking
Enhances ability to focus
Increases memory skills
Employs multiple sensory development
Develops self-esteem and discipline
Develops independent muscle and finger coordination

Girls On The Run Program
Girls on the Run is an evidence-based program (for grades 3,4,&5) that inspires all girls to build their confidence, kindness, and decision making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.
The program focuses on movement more than running. It is not necessary to be a runner or an athlete to participate in the program.
We will meet twice a week after school until 5:15pm. Practice starts the last week of February and runs for about 10 weeks (20 practices). *If there is no school, there is no Girls on the Run.*
The 5K celebration is scheduled for 5/21/23. Please note, this is the rain date for the Iron Knights Triathlon. If these events end up on the same day, we can find a way for your girl to participate in both (if they want).
If you have additional questions, please reach out to Jessica Levine jhaaslevine@gmail.com
Cultural Highlight of the Week
Thanksgiving, which occurs on the fourth Thursday in November, is based on the colonial Pilgrims' 1621 harvest meal. The holiday continues to be a day for Americans to gather for a day of feasting, football and family.
