THE VIKING
Hinesburg Community School - June 12, 2020
The Principal's Corner
Dear HCS Families:
As you have probably heard, on Wednesday, Governor Scott announced that schools will re-open in the fall, which is exactly what we were hoping to hear. With this in mind, we will be planning through the summer to make our start of year as safe as possible while also trying to keep a sense of normalcy for our kids. We have heard over and over from students, sometimes with a note of surprise in their voices, about how much they have missed their classmates and teachers. Knowing how important these social connections are, our goal from the start will be for our staff to create community and connections with kids and families, while also working hard to get kids caught up. As always, our goal will be to balance social and emotional learning with academic learning. Luckily, this is an area where our staff excels.
Also know, that we will be devoting time as a staff around planning for "what-if's" so that we can take the lessons we have learned from our experiences this year to better prepare for what the fall and winter might bring.
As always, thank you for how supportive and understanding you have been. We both tend to brag a bit to school administrators from other towns about how great our community is. We love working with all of you and we love our students and staff. On that note, be sure to enjoy all of the beauty that Vermont has to offer, have a wonderful summer, and if you run into John on a trout stream or Suzan running on the Burlington Bike Path, and you can recognize us through our masks:) be sure to say hi. Have a wonderful summer!
Warmly,
Suzan and John
Carpenter-Carse Library 2020 Summer Reading Program
Our Summer Reading Program this year is “Imagine Your Story” and we are excited to share our lineup of activities and virtual programs for this summer with you! Email jen@carpentercarse.org or call us at 482-2878 to register for SRP and so we can add your name to our email list and keep you posted on all the fun activities and events happening through Carpenter-Carse this summer!
Beginning June 10th Stop in at the library to pick up your “Imagine Your Story” Reading Logs to track your progress throughout the summer. While you’re here, check out Jack’s Magical Book Beanstalk outdoors where you will be able to add titles you’ve read all summer. You can also plant your own beanstalk in the library garden and make a tag to label your plant. All materials will be available outside the library so we can all practice safe social distancing
Summer Reading Club Events
It looks like most, if not all, events will take place virtually. Every event is free and open to all ages. You will need to register for each event through our website or by calling us at 482-2878 so that we can provide you with more information and/or a virtual link. If we are able to host onsite events, we will let you know, and grownups must always accompany children.
