October Updates
PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE FOR OUR PODCAST with special guest, RMS Athletic Coordinator Chris Kober, as we talk all things RMS sports!
Fall is officially upon us here at Readington Middle School. After six weeks into the year, our school is in a groove! We have had state testing, field trips, assemblies, and Back to School Night to start the year. Special thanks to all that came to our Back to School Night at RMS. Our teachers loved seeing you all and we appreciate the time you made to learn more about your child's program, teacher, and our school.
Our RMS Fall Athletics program is starting to wind down. We were so excited to host so many families and students for the RMS Viking Family Pep Rally on Friday, October 14th, 2022. We had a ton of fun rooting out our Vikings as they played as hard as they could. Thanks again to the HSA for putting on an amazing event. We had food trucks, Blue/Gold swag and a ton of great energy! There were smiles for miles and overall, it was a great success.
Please continue to come out to our Viking Home games to support our teams during the rest of the season For the most up to date athletics information, please check out the athletics calendar further down in the newsletter.
In October, we have highlighted this month with a number of Spirit Days (thanks, Student Council) and they were all a blast! We also held some special events, such as our BMX Assembly that really capped off our Week of Respect.
We look forward to a few additional special events this month, including our Student Council Halloween Dance. We expect that all students will have a great time and abide by school rules.
This will be the first time our students in RMS will experience a student dance. Therefore, we are setting out some expectations that all will follow.
- If your student is attending the dance, please be sure they have a costume that is school appropriate and that we can see their face.
- Students will arrive and enter through our bus entrance. Students will check themselves into the dance at a grade specific table.
- All students will get a wristband for pizza/water. Snacks will be available to purchase throughout the night. Make sure your child knows their own dietary restrictions when it comes to food.
- We want our students to have a great time and to enjoy each other's company during the dance. We often find that the biggest prohibitor to this is, you guessed it, cell phones. Students may bring cell phones to the dance but we are asking for them to check them in with our chaperones to start the night. They can, throughout the night, go and check their phones if they need to to contact parents/guardians. All phones will be given back to students 10 minutes before the dance ends at 8:30pm.
- We will have quiet areas for the students to relax in, talk to their friends, and play quiet games.
- Parents will be asked to come in and sign students out of the dance and then retrieve them from the cafeteria to end the night safely.
Our 8th Graders over the course of the next few weeks will learn about Voting from the Hunterdon County Clerk, Mary Melfi and will have special Town Hall assemblies with both Tom Kean Jr. and Tom Malinowski. These are great opportunities for our young adults to learn about voting process and from candidates in the field.
We will end the month of October with a special presentation on Vaping for Red Ribbon Week.
As we turn our eye towards November, please take the time to sign up for a parent-teacher conference for your child, if they need it. More information about how to sign up can be found later in the newsletter. Parent-teacher conferences are a great way to partner with us to help students learn and grow. We look forward to seeing you at the conferences!
Our 8th graders will also be going on their first field trip of the year on 11/1!
Also, the RMS Coffee chat will be back on November 17th, 2022 from 7-8pm in the RMS Library Media Center. Our special guests from Prevention Resources will be talking about Middle School Social Media use, cyber bullying and more! More information can be found further in our newsletter!
So, until next month, please be well, thank you for your partnership and Go Vikings!

RMS Achieves Sustainable Jersey Silver Status
Readington Middle School has met the requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools Silver certification, bringing the total number of certified schools across New Jersey to 352. As leading examples of sustainability excellence, the certified schools provide outstanding learning opportunities for their students and join an established cohort of recognized schools across the state.
Sustainable Jersey for Schools developed the voluntary certification program in 2014 as a roadmap for pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade public schools to reach their fullest potential. Each school that is certified at the bronze-level must submit documentation to show it has completed a balanced portfolio of the program’s sustainability actions, attaining a minimum of 150 points. The more advanced silver-level requires a minimum of 350 points of sustainability actions.
We are so proud of our school, students, staff, and families who helped us achieve this milestone! Congrats!
