100 Days Brighter…
“Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” ~ Charles R. Swindoll
This week at Saint John XXIII we celebrated 100 days of school! There were collections of 100, mathematical combinations of how many make 100, 100 laps around the gym, 100 cartwheels, 100 ball bounces, 100 smiles, 100 hats...it was a frenzy of 100!
The aspect that wove in and throughout the day was the intentional invitation from the teachers to connect an important milestone with mathematical thinking through joy and fun! Children delight in learning experiences that are authentic and meaningful. Everywhere you went in our school on Wednesday, there was some element of “100” exploration and excitement! If you walked into our office, you would have been met with an abundance of school spirit from Mrs. Potter who sported a hand made shirt that read, “100 days flew by”. Thank you to everyone who got into the spirit of 100 days of school!
This week our number will shift from 100 to 40. 40 days of our Lenten journeys starting on Ash Wednesday. 40 days of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer. As we prepare our hearts for our Lenten journeys, may we continue to provide our children with authentic and meaningful experiences to grow in their faith and love.
Blessings,
Mrs. Boehm
We LOVE to Read...Who was it? Who will it be?
This week our Mystery Reader was Mrs Merrick, our new librarian! It was a great way to get to know her a little better.
See if you can guess who next year's first Mystery Reader is?

Pink Shirt Day-Wednesday, Feb. 26th Show Love-Be Kind
This Wednesday, our school community will sport pink once again to show our commitment to kindness. Wearing pink demonstrates understanding of the importance of promoting healthy relationships and actively working toward creating learning and work environments that are safe and where bullying behaviours cannot exist. Suggestions for participating in Pink Shirt Day and resources to raise awareness about this important event are accessible at alberta.ca/pink-shirt-day-alberta.
In our Catholic Faith we have a Saint who has shown what it means to practice kindness and help those in need. St. Francis was an example of living a life of love and being
accepting of all of God’s creation, no matter how big or small. May we all continue to Love-First, Last and Always.
Lord, Make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
-St. Francis of Assisi
Thanks to Mrs. Heesing, Mrs. Potter, and amazing volunteer parent, Nikki Rowe, for all your work in organizing our Pink Shirts!

To be eligible to enroll in kindergarten, your child must be 5 years of age by December 31, 2020. Catholic Education is more than just attending a Catholic School. It’s an opportunity to embrace God’s love and share His gift of joy in our families, parish and faith/ learning communities.
We love our school and would love to journey with your child! Come and visit St. John XXIII School. For more information, please contact the school at 780-998-7777. There will also be a Kindergarten information evening in May once our enrolment and classes are confirmed.
*Pre-Kindergarten: We are just waiting for the funding framework and budget to be released before any Pre-K program planning decisions are made. Information will be shared as soon as we can.
