The Ludwig Ledger
January 2019
Finishing up 2018 and Looking Forward to 2019...
Ludwig School does a fantastic job of participating in fundraisers to help others! During the month of November, students were asked to bring in loose change to help the victims of Hurricane Michael. I am happy to report that $465 was donated. We will be writing a check to the Florida Disaster Fund to help those who were affected by this horrible storm.
During the week of December 3rd, the students were challenged to bring in new or gently used children's books to help children that don't have many books to read. In a one week period, our goal was to collect 2,000 books. I am proud to say we surpassed our goal, our students collected 2,986 books! Mrs. O'Donnell's class collected the most books, 807!!
Our carnival themed Family Math Night was a success! We had many families come out to learn more about our math program, practice their fluency, and play some games. Thanks to Mrs. Murphy and the many volunteers that made this night a great event for all!
Our Winter Choir Concert was held on December 13th. Mrs. Danley and the chorus spent a lot of time preparing for this concert. They sounded wonderful!
Gayle Rosengren, the author of "What the Moon Said," visited Ludwig on December 14th. She spoke to us about the process of writing books and how she gets her ideas for writing.
Our 4th and 5th graders took a trip to Strike N Spare the week of December 17th to culminate their Bowling Unit in PE. The students not only bowled but were responsible for keeping score the "old fashioned way." What a great way to integrate PE and math!
Mrs. Fox's class held their annual Snowflake breakfast on December 18th. They prepared a wonderful spread for their families and their teachers. Everyone had a nice time socializing and creating a craft.
And lastly, our Winter Classroom Parties were so much fun! The students participated in many crafts, games, and contests. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who planned and executed these parties for our students!
Starting 2019...
The fifth-graders G.R.E.A.T. graduation will be held on Friday, January 18 at 9:00 am. Keep in mind that this is also a School Improvement Day with a 10:55 am dismissal. Please be sure to have plans in place for your students coming home early this day!
Our fourth-graders will be heading to Pilcher Park on either January 11th or 14th to learn about the Underground Railroad . This is always a fun trip that our students look forward to!
All of our students will participate in a field trip on January 24th. Our fifth-graders will have an "in-house" field trip with Robert Crown. Our fourth-graders will be heading to the Bulls/Sox Academy for their field trip. Please send a brown bag lunch with the fourth graders, as they will be eating at the Academy.

Coming in February...Parent Informational Meeting
Take some time to relax over your winter break!
Please remind your students to read over break! They have an opportunity to earn a free Six Flags ticket by reading and recording how much they read on the Read to Succeed forms that were sent home in November. Also, encouraging them to work on Dreambox over break will help them practice and further develop math concepts and skills!
Thanks for all you do,
