Swimming
We start swimming on Tuesday, March 1. We will be swimming up at the high school pool from 1:40-2:50. Students will need to bring a swimsuit and a towel March 1-9. If you have any questions about the swimming program please contact Miss Fischer or Mr. Cullip.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher conferences are next week on March 2 and 3. I also opened up a few time on March 1 right after school. Please take a moment and schedule a conference with the link below or contact Mrs. Zoerner in the office at 526-4500. If the dates/times available don't work for you please contact me to arrange an alternate time.
Battle of the Books
Students are doing a great job on their Battle of the Books! I think every student in our class has read at least one. Students are required to read a minimum of three of the titles by March 28. We've had some extra silent reading time in the classroom, but students are also allowed to stay in at lunch and read if they need to catch up. Please continue to encourage your child to read and ask him/her to summarize the story for you.
Language Arts
- Reading: This week we read a nonfiction story about working dogs. Our focus was on summarizing and identifying the main idea and supporting details in a text.
- Writing: We wrapped up our persuasive essays!! Finally! These were a lot of work and they will be on display in the hall for parent teacher conferences.
- Grammar: Our focus was on adverbs this week.
Math
This week students applied various division strategies in problem solving. They began their math test on Thursday (many did not finish due to a shortened math time because of the 4th grade swimming schedule). Students will not have a math homework sheet for next week, so they should spend some extra time practicing math facts!
Science and Social Studies
- Science: This week we learned about renewable and nonrenewable resources. We also read a picture book about Nikola Tesla and his contributions to science. Finally, we reviewed our energy unit. There will be a test next week on Thursday, March 3. There is a note and review packet in the homework folder.
- Social Studies: This week we wrapped up working on posters and commercials for mini-society. We reviewed that the United States has a market economy. We also talked about the circular flow of money. Reminder that mini-society is on March 15 from 1:30-2:30 in the Shay cafeteria, parents are encouraged to attend. Students should be working on their products at home over the next few weeks. They are required to have a minimum of 15-20 items to sell.
Homework
- Math: No homework for math this week because they wrapped up the test on Friday. Students should be practicing their math facts on Moby Max for review.
- Spelling: New list and worksheet
- Grammar: Worksheet
- Reading: Battle of the Books
- Ipad: Raz-Kids, Spelling City and Moby Max.
