Asset Basketball Association Registration Under Way
ABA basketball registration is open to our 4th and 5th graders and will end on Friday, December 1st. This is an instructional league based on coaching basic basketball fundamentals and building assets. This group is open to students that are not currently participating in another team (select, traveling, WCYBA, rec, etc.). Please refer to the paperwork sent home earlier, or utilize the form below.
Holliday PTO Corner
Mark your calendars for the Holliday Extravaganza event. The PTO has secured over 20 craft and direct sales vendors to be at the school on Saturday, December 9th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping. Also, we will have several free crafts and games for the kids to participate in, as well as a photographer available for a winter photo, face painting, and concessions. We are in need of volunteers to run the free games and craft booths for the children. Please contact us via our Facebook account at Holliday Independent PTO or through email at hollidayindependentpto@gmail.com if you are interested in working a shift during the event.
Holliday Happenings
Turkey Time
The students in Mrs. Robinson's first grade class, with the help of Mr. Downing, made their own turkeys for Thanksgiving. How delicious!
Long Ago vs. Today
The students in Mrs. Longworth's homeroom did some research about the first Thanksgiving. They compared Wampanoag Native American clothing to Pilgrim clothing. They compared Thanksgiving today to Thanksgiving long ago. The students also had some very rich discussions about customs and traditions in their own families and how those might have started.
Fourth Grade Field Trip
Fourth graders visited Sunwatch Indian Village Thursday. They learned about one of the earliest civilizations in the area. They played a primary hunting game, sat in the solstice house, and visited the inside of a wood and grass house.
On the way home they visited the Miamisburg Mound, another famous Native American landmark in our area. The climb up the 116 steps was a challenge!
Reading Buddies
The students in Mrs. Baldridge's fifth grade class visited their reading buddies in Mrs. Longworth's second grade class this week. The fifth grade students had prepared a special project for their buddy. The students made a Thanksgiving "cootie catcher" together.
