Traditional Literature and Reading Clubs
We continue to dig into traditional literature. This week we read Paul Bunyan, a tall tale. We added to the thought web the ideas of exaggeration and 'super powers'. We also found some great personification and word choice to tell the stories! We will try our and at writing a few traditional tales using our list of structures and mentor texts in writers workshop the next few weeks!
The campers have created their own reading clubs as we close out our year. They choose their books, created calendars for reading, have responses based on the list we created as a class, and will meet twice a week for discussions and to compare and contrast their books with other reading clubs. They have worked hard to get to this point and I am so proud of their seriousness and thoughtfulness when creating their plans. "This feels like grown up work" that all said! I look forward to seeing with them and discussing the ideas and these great titles!

Fractions in a Set Two Ways
We worked through some great fraction word stories this week. Solving these took some perseverance and working with many strategies to get the solutions. It was great to see teams tackling these together, in partners, and then on their own!
Great job on our fraction assessment this week! We are moving into Unit 9 and will tackle multiplication double digits X double digits. We have a good start with multiplication using double and single digits and that will be a great foundation for our new learning.
