VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE COURAGEOUS'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Courageous'.
To be courageous we want our learners to - give everything a go, be a risktaker, stick up for themselves, think of their own solutions, try new things, offer opinions and idea, join in with others, and to be their own person.
SCHOOL GOAL: Being 'open' to new learning!
WHAT: Being prepared to learn new ‘skills’ at school this term!
WHY: To understand that learning never stops
To know that I am capable of learning new things
Being open to learn in all areas – socially, academically and emotionally
I can improve myself by being open to new ideas
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You are keen to ‘take on’ new learning and use this learning to develop your skills
You want to learn new things – you are a sponge and might go on to research more!
Even if it is not a subject you like, you are still keen to learn and develop your skills
You are always improving and developing your skills with new learning.
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have been very lucky with the weather so far this term. We have also been able to dodge a lot of the wet weather yesterday and today and made it through our sports exchange and school assembly. Well done to everyone involved in the sports exchange.
I have been very impressed with our Vogeltown learners and teaching staff who have 'got stuck in' to the learning this term. We are making great progress with our learners and are providing some great programmes and interventions to support this.
A reminder to ask your child what they are learning at school, what their learning goals are and what progress they believe they are making. These are the kinds of conversations we have at school and it is always interesting as to what they tell us.
The government and Ministry of Education continue to remind us that we are still in Level 1 of Covid. Some of our Level 1 protocols are:
- We will promote good hygiene practices - regularly wash and dry hands, sneeze and cough into elbows
- Anyone who is sick should stay home - no exceptions please
- We will document any visitors who come on site. All visitors will need to sign in / out at the school office on Vistab
- We will support contact tracing efforts by displaying QR Code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer App at each entrance and the office
- We will meet and greet children at the entrance ways and encourage parents to say goodbye at the gate in the morning
- We would ask that at the end of the day parents meet children at the gate, or if entering the school grounds, wait until 2:55pm - 3:00pm to do so
A big thanks for your patience as they continue to develop Huatoki St. We are aware that it is taking a lot longer to get to and from school. The council are still working on developing the crossing and the hump down by the Vogeltown shops.
They are working on the footpaths between the junior school and senior school (both sides) and then in the Term 3 holidays they will be addressing the front of both school sites.
It will look awesome once it is all completed!
Thanks whanau,
Mr O
