DADS of younger dancers! We are looking for you!
Ms. Michelle here! There's a picture of my dad and me from Dance Concert 2019. My dad started his career of Dance Dad, official Dance Concert curtain-puller, and backdrop carpenter extraordinaire back in the early 80's when he would pick me up from dance, and we'd stop at the gas station where he would let me get a can of pineapple juice or a bottle of apple juice. I have vivid memories of listening to rock-n-roll on the way home with the windows down and the wind cooling me off on warm Spring evenings!
The IGNITE/GLOW/ILLUMINATE/AURORA 3&4 students are winding down the FIRST-EVER 5-Week Session of our new "DANCE with DAD!" class, and I must say from personal experience that it has been a SUCCESS!
In an interesting turn of events, it has worked out that I have been dancing with MY dad for the last four weeks. We are having a great time (and a lot of laughs) as we dance with the other dancer/dad pairs, and my dad even commented after class last week, "Why didn't we do this 20 years ago?" Good question, Dad, and there's no time like the present to create new traditions that will bless dancers and Dance Dads alike!
So... now it's your turn to make some meaningful memories together! If any LITTLE SUNBEAM/SHINE/SPARK/AURORA 1&2 dancers want in on the fun with their dads, we know it will be a treat!
See below for more info & enroll today! Class starts Sat 3/19!

Global Outreach - GOLI & JOY IN HAITI
We have 2 great opportunities for everyone who would like to reach out to others in our global community!
GOLI (Gifts of Love International) - HELPING OUT WITH DANCE DRESSES!
Here's a note from one of Dance Dads...
"I just arrived back from Guatemala. We run a Children’s home for abused children. When I was there they were telling me how they were reaching both the girls of the children’s home and the adjoining community through dance.
They are trying to raise money for dresses for a performance they are wanting to put on for a special church service. There are 15 girls and they are trying to raise $25 each for the dresses. I just wanted to pass this along for your information."
To give to this and learn more, you can utilize the foundation at Gifts of Love International, GOLI.org.
JOY IN HAITI - SPONSORING ORPHANS
It's Ms. Michelle again, and I have to brag on my mom for a minute too! Just like the great memories I have with my dad and dance, my mom was always a HUGE encouragement to me as well! She came to watch weeks, helped out with our class backstage during recital weekends, and never let me give up when my confidence was low.
She continues to bless me in all the ways she helps out behind the scenes at the studio, and one of the most awesome ways she contributes is by sponsoring one of the young ladies at House of Joy, the orphanage in Haiti. House of Joy is supported by Joy in Haiti, and this is where we have gone to teach our summer dance camps. My mom and I have sponsored Dieudena for a few years, and this year my mom has felt called to sponsor another one of the girls, Nahomie!
Joy in Haiti is looking for sponsors for just 2 more girls at House of Joy - Kedline (17 yrs) and Naika (15 yrs). Both of these girls are so sweet and kind!
Sponsorship can also be shared between two or more families or individuals if you would like to team up with another family.
If you are interested, please reach out to Joy in Haiti at liesmanstudio@yahoo.com for more information.

Benefits of Dance for Kids - EMOTIONAL BENEFITS
It’s all connected. If your child has a strong body that can host a strong mind, they’ll experience the world differently. Remember that we’re talking about art, which has always been considered emotional, if not spiritual.
- Dance improves self-worth: Think about how this can improve your child’s self-awareness. If they have something to be proud of, they’ll love themselves more. This could even be an important method of fighting bullying, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Dancing also teaches empathy, which has the potential to reduce these problems even more (4).
- Dance is fun: It sounds cheesy, but wouldn’t you rather have your child in a dance class than wasting away in front of a TV? Or falling in with the wrong crowd? Children don’t want to be bored. Dance can improve your child’s mood.
- Dance emphasizes body language: Dance can (and will) strengthen your child’s ability to communicate non-verbally. Not only will their body language improve, but they’ll also learn to read others better. This is a valuable life skill.
- Dance is an emotional outlet: Everyone needs something they can pour their feelings into. Dance serves as a vent for your child’s emotional needs. Dancing is cathartic. It can greatly regulate your child’s behavior as well as their feelings. In doing so, it releases stress and built up frustration.
- Dance can keep your child on track: Any hobby or activity can give your child’s life more meaning. The motivation or desire to excel will give them a sense of purpose. Remember that even though your child doesn’t have to pursue dance professionally, it will open a door of opportunity if they want to. Simply put, it gives them something to work towards. https://momlovesbest.com/benefits-of-dance-for-kids#q0
