A message from our principal

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving break and had many things to give thanks for. The supportive parents, hard working students and superb staff members make me thankful every day.

We are looking forward to upcoming parent teacher conferences. Ongoing communication and collaboration between home and school positively contributes to the overall success of the children. We welcome ongoing dialogue throughout the year so that we can work as a team to help your child.

We want to congratulate our newly appointed Teacher of the Year, Mrs.

Klepper, as well as our Educational Services Professional, Ms. Rowe.

Congratulations to both of them, we are so pleased to have them representing

Barley Sheaf.

For parents that are dropping off or picking up your children, thank you for your diligence in displaying your family tag. If you are picking up at the end of the day and arrive early, please be sure to turn your car off so that you do not idle in front of the school building. One helpful tip, if you prefer to avoid the traffic in the afternoon, then arrive around 3:40. This seems to be a time when traffic lightens up in front of the building. Stay warm and healthy as the weather

and season change.

Sincerely,

Karen L. Gabruk

Principal

MEET OUR FIRST GRADE TEAM!

FROM OUR VICE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Families,

As we navigate the winter months and the inevitable illnesses that go along with it, please be sure to utilize the online absence reporting form on our Barley Sheaf website or leave a message on our attendance line (908) 284-7586, menu option #1 when your child will be absent from school. For more information about sick day guidelines, please click here. If you are unsure whether or not your child is well enough to attend school, please feel free to reach out to Nurse Eosso at 908-284-7588.

Regular school attendance, including prompt arrival, is critical for student learning. Chronic absence, missing 10 percent of school days, whether excused or unexcused, negatively impacts student achievement. Please note that three tardy days and/or early dismissal days are equivalent to one day absent. Parent drop-off at Barley Sheaf begins at 8:30 am, and any student arriving after 8:55 am is marked tardy. More information about attendance can be found in the Barley Sheaf Family Handbook.

I look forward to seeing many of you during the upcoming parent and teacher conferences, and I wish you and your families a happy and healthy holiday season!

Sincerely,

Mary Jane Custy

Vice Principal

From Our Art Teacher

Barley artists have been very busy creating beautiful artwork! K artists are working on texture and how lines and shapes create pictures. Grade 1 artists are learning about rainbow colors and how to use design within their art. Grade 2 artists are learning all about printmaking. Grade 3 artists are experimenting with different types of lines and using their imagination to create their art. Grade 4 artists are working on three-dimensional shapes and will be moving into different types of perspectives.

One of the programs that I am working on is called Artsonia. For those of you who are new to Artsonia, it’s an online art gallery where you can view your child’s artwork. Since it’s online, friends and family can see the masterpieces of your child and stay connected with their accomplishments. Through Artsonia, you are able to purchase customized art keepsakes like mugs, canvas prints, portfolio books, t-shirts, key chains, cutting boards, jewelry, and much more! These make great holiday gifts and 20% is sent right back to the art program! Also, friends and family are able to leave positive comments about your child’s artwork. To visit Artsonia, click HERE.

From Our PTO

The Barley Sheaf PTO needs YOU! We are looking for volunteers to help and

support the school and OUR children. As a volunteer member of the PTO, you’re

invited to chair the committee for a special event, or serve a much needed role as board

member of the organization. As a committee chair you will have an immediate

opportunity to shadow a current chairperson for the upcoming Spring PICTO event to

gain experience and valuable knowledge. Come join in and help create the fun!

Also, save the date for Thursday, February 9, 2023 for a new member event for all

interested in volunteering with the PTO. All are welcome, no matter how small or large

your time commitment may allow. We can’t wait to see you there!

LOST AND FOUND

Our lost and found is overflowing with jackets, coats, gloves and various other items. Please take a moment when you're here for conferences to look through the clothing in the front foyer to see if something might belong to your child. Thanks!
