NHS helps out shelter pets
The OHS National Honor Society collected pet supplies this month to give back to their furry friends. The students say that shelters have a greater need in the winter and they thought this would be a good way to help out. Their drive was a big success and they'll be donating the food, supplies and toys to local animal shelters.
JV Basketball players go bowling!
The JV Girls Basketball team took several students bowling this weekend as a part of their ongoing efforts to give back. They traveled to a nursing home last month to play bingo with residents. Aimee Beehler, OPS Psychologist
- I love genealogy! I have traced some family lines back to the 1300s and found stories of pirates, heroes, witches and aristocrats. I dream of extended stays in the UK and Netherlands to continue my search and visit landmarks.
- I acted as the general contractor when we built our house (no construction background and without lifting a hammer). It was a good experience, and I would do it again.
- My and my young family’s lives were saved by a carbon monoxide detector years ago (not the same house as above).
Jon Throop, MS Social Studies
- I love to travel. Two of my favorite trips have been Disney World with my family and Italy for my honeymoon. I know; complete opposites!
- My favorite lunch destination is the Essen Haus Restaurant in Indiana. Yes, we drive an hour and a half for lunch!
- I grew up around funeral homes and race tracks. Our family business is Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville. My Dad also owned a race team that won several championships in the old American Speed Association. We have had a few famous race car drivers at our house including the Richard Petty family.
Keith Fuller, OMS Counselor
- My favorite place in the world is my cabin in Indian River, and I try to get there every other weekend or so. My cabin is on the Sturgeon River, and yes: there are Sturgeon in the Sturgeon River(!);
- I’m a total geography nerd, and love studying maps both old and new. I find it impossible to get lost (I’ve tried!);
- I’m in my 29th year of public education employment, spanning four school districts, 9 grades, and 2 career paths (art education and counseling)
