ALL HANDS ON DECK
HS STAFF NEWS | March 11, 2019
Thoughtfulness for Further Growth
Authentic learning can look messy and have its ups and downs, but just keep moving in an upward trajectory.
Short article by George Couros linked below:
3rd Quarter Timeline to Remain the Same
3rd quarter timeline will remain as scheduled on the calendar:
- March 8, 2019 - 3rd Quarter Ends
- March 13, 2019 - All grade finalized in SIS
- March 15, 2019 - Report Cards to go home
This decision was based on the following:
- Dates are published and communicated to stakeholders on a board approved calendar.
- 3rd quarter is reporting student progress towards end of year goals and therefore can be more progressive as opposed to a summative report at the end of 4th quarter.
Note:
- If there are any modifications to reporting topics at the Elementary Level, please ensure that each grade level is consistent within each building.
Don't Forget to Shut It Down!
School Board Recognition Week - Visit from Amy MacCuish
This is what she had to say:
"I had such a wonderful visit! Thank you very much for the warm welcome and goodies. I loved being there with all the students and learning about the new programs and innovations."
Thank you Bevin Schmer, Mark Blakley, Ashleigh Schlorholtz, Chelsea Rohr, their students, Gail Martin and the Cheerleaders, and Dr. Sayre for welcoming her and allowing her to visit your classrooms.
GO PIRATES!!
Student SCHIVIRS
In an effort to make sure we are recognizing all our students, we are opening up the opportunity for students to nominate their peers when they are seen living out our Pirate Character Traits in our building.
Staff SCHIVIR Spotlight
Here are the January nominees:
GEORGE JONES
STUDENT FOCUS
A family came in the DEC that only spoke Spanish to enroll a Freshman and a 3rd grader...George Jones graciously agreed to talk to mom on the phone to help her understand the POR needed to enroll.
AMBER POLNER
STUDENT FOCUS
Amber met with a student on a Saturday just to help make sure they got all of their work done, and caught up, for the end of the semester. She took time away from her family to make sure the student was successful!
COURTNEY MARCHBANK
Despite having limited time to meet, Courtney is super easy to collaborate with. She maintains a shared calendar that we use for planning and leaving notes for each other so we can stay on track, so that even if aren't able to meet face to face, we can still collaborate. She readily shares ideas and plans.
BILL UTZ
STUDENT FOCUS
Bill has been tremendously involved in the development of our Missouri Options Program. He is working with at-risk students who are using their last chance to graduate from high school. Many times he is having counseling sessions with these students. He does this while being the head football coach...JAMES MISCAVISH
It is obvious Mr. Miscavish really takes the time to get to know his students. When they come into the library, he really tries to match books/authors to students because he has taken the time to know what they are interested in and participate in. He also jumped right in and took over the gaming club...
EMILY PRESNELL
STUDENT FOCUS
Emily has been working very hard with one of our at-risk students. ... I have noticed this student's attitude and attendance improving with Emily's help. I can see a difference in how she talks with her teachers and peers in class.
COUNSELORS
All of the personnel associated with the counseling department and office staff who pitched in to help plan, organize and make Monday night's Freshman Curriculum Night (8th grade parent night), a success.
Quite often, these people do not get recognized for their "behind-the-scenes" work that contributes to the success of our students, helps better inform their parents and gives clarity to the connections between classrooms and those stakeholders.
