A Note from Miss Amber

Dear Lincoln, Logan & McPherson County 4-H Families,

Summer is upon us! Many camps, animal progress shows, and workshops are being planned for this summer. Pay close attention to the flyers and details listed within this newsletter, as well as promoted on our 4-H Facebook page.

As we were getting ready to send this newsletter, I received an e-mail stating that the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) announced that the controlled movement order cancelling all poultry events due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) that was issued on March 26, 2022, and extended on April 27, 2022, has been allowed to expire! Poultry owners are still asked to practice biosecurity measures for poultry events, but events are allowed to resume.

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns,

Miss Amber

Resources like the growing newsletter and evaluation can be found at: https://4h.unl.edu/special-gardening-project. Please have youth complete the Special Garden Project evaluation. This should be filled out on how the experience went for the youth (both good and bad) and what they learned as a result of the project

4-H Market Animal Production Classes

The purpose of 4-H record keeping is to teach youth how to keep records, which is an important life skill. Record keeping is an ongoing process that does not end when 4-H ends. It teaches youth how to set goals, how to make plans for action, and the end result.

You may enter 1 market animal per species in a production class. The specific animal must be selected at pre-fair entry. The production champion, per species, will be the youth with the highest total score from the live show, rate of gain and record book. Record books will need be turned in by September 15th.
