Masks and our Upcoming School Board Meeting
Last week California state officials announced that after March 11, school districts can decide whether to continue requiring masks or make them optional. At this point in time, the Lemon Grove School District requires all students, staff, and visitors to wear masks while indoors only. Our School Board will be discussing the state of masking for our district at the next regular governing board meeting on Tuesday, March 8. Families are encouraged to tune in via YouTube for the livestream of our board meeting.

Read Across America Week
What a joy it was to see students and families participate in our daily themed reading and Spirit Day adventures!
Organized by our wonderful Intervention Teacher, Mrs. Erin Smith, this year's theme celebrated books, authors, and teaching resources that promote diversity and inclusion.
Our week culminated with Friday's theme of Cozying Up with a Good Book and an amazing line up of guest readers from our community! Our readers even included Board Member, Mr. Timothy Shaw and our Superintendent, Ms. Erica Balakian. And how can we forget two-time Olympic medalist, Shannon Bahrke Happe, who shared her book, "Mommy, Why Is Your Hair Pink?"; a story of finding the courage to follow your dreams and finding the strength to love yourself even when you feel different. What a treat it was for our entire school campus to join her via Zoom for an exclusive reading and discussion!
We hope last week's celebrations encourage us all to continue reading and growing!

Announcing our OneVista Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Audrey Madrid
Mrs. Madrid exemplifies what genius, heart, and voice in teaching is all about! You can find Mrs. Madrid teaching 6th graders with engaging math strategies such as her Judge Judy-style courtroom of Equations or Inequalities and afterschool she guides our weekly Chess Club. An avid runner, Mrs. Madrid gives of her time to support our Heart & Sole running program as a running buddy to our Grades 6-8 Cheetah runners. But more than all of this, Mrs. Madrid is an advocate for our scholars and champion for their voice!
Congratulations Mrs. Madrid!
And our Classified Employee of the Year is.......Mrs. Susana Rivera!
Student Cell Phone Policy
This policy will also apply to all of our Cheetah Scholars.
Previously, we have allowed middle school students to use their cell phones during passing periods, nutrition break, and lunch recess with the exception of texting, calling, taking photos, or videos. Unfortunately, we have had multiple situations recently where this policy has not been adhered to, ultimately affecting the safety and privacy of our students.
As of December 1, all students will be required to turn their cell phones upon entering campus at the start of the day and store them in their backpack throughout the school day. Students will be permitted to turn their phone on as they exit to the lower field for dismissal.
Students who have their phones out during the day will have their phone turned into the office where it will be labeled, stored in a locked cabinet for safety, and released to the student at the end of the day. The second time the phone is confiscated, a parent will be asked to pick up the phone from the office.
As always, if you need to reach your child for any reason during the school day, please call the front office and we can take a message or have your child come to the office to take the call.
We appreciate your support in helping our students remain focused on academics and promoting the safety of all our scholars.
