Principal's Message

Dear Chehalem Families,

Just a friendly reminder that we only have two days of school next week with Wednesday through Friday off (November 25-27) for Thanksgiving. I hope everyone has time to reflect on what they are thankful for, even in these times of stress and isolation. I'm personally thankful for all the hard work that students, staff and parents have put in to ensure students are learning and supported during these unprecedented times.

With the Governor putting a two-week pause on COVID restrictions for both Washington and Multnomah counties, we still have permission to do supply pick up events and the book bus will still go. We are encouraging staff to work from home when they can.

Thank you for your flexibility as we navigate these difficult and ever-changing times.

Stay healthy and well!

Sincerely, Angee Silliman

Marathon Kids and Turkey Trot

Information has come out from PE teachers about the option for our students to participate in Marathon Kids. There is a Turkey Trot individual family activity to kick it off. Please contact Mrs. Hoddevik if you want more information.

School Photos- Postponed

Due to the Governor's freeze that has been put in place the district has postponed all photos until early February at least. We have rescheduled for a Wednesday date in early February, but we won't announce anything formal until closer to that time.

Progress Updates

This year the calendar adjustments to accommodate remote learning have shifted how learning time is used. The District chose to keep student-contact days instead of setting aside four total non-student learning days that normally would have been for parent teacher conferences at the elementary level.

Teachers used the assessment day last Friday to evaluate student work and progress has been/will be shared with you in some way by the classroom teacher already or early next week. Most teachers are sending a digital report of current levels, but some may be calling or using a different mode. Please contact your child's teacher if you have additional questions.

Book Bus

The Monday afternoon book bus continues to be a hit in the neighborhoods where it stops. Ms. Blanchard, Ms. Harder, Mr. Sanborn and Miss T. (our new counselor) all hope to see you soon at one of the stops.

The 3 W’s for a Safe Holiday Celebration

WEAR your mask, WATCH your distance, WASH your hands

This year the Oregon Health Authority has encouraged everyone to participate in low-risk holiday activities to keep all Oregonians safe during the pandemic, because we know social gatherings have been the catalyst for a significant level of spread of the Coronavirus. If you are planning on gathering with family or friends this holiday season, it is important to remember the 3 W’s to keep you and your family safe - wear your mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands!

Low risk ideas for this holiday season:

  • Stay home and make seasonal dishes with the people you live with

  • Meet with family and friends virtually instead of in person

  • Shop locally or online

  • Think outside of the box and create new traditions

It is safest to stay home and celebrate. If you are planning on traveling or having someone who does not live with you attend your holiday activities, it is important to take precautions and celebrate safely.

Tips to help keep you and your family safe:

  • Stay home and avoid others when you are sick or have been exposed to illness

  • Get your flu vaccine

  • Wear your face covering and only remove it to eat

  • Wash your hands frequently

  • Maintain 6 feet of distance

  • Limit the gathering to 10 or less people

  • Take your seasonal activities outdoors

  • Prepare individual food plates instead of buffet style serving or have guests bring their own food

  • Drive instead of fly, if possible

  • Get COVID-19 tested before going anywhere or reduce interaction with others outside of your home for 2 weeks before a social gathering

If you want more information, see additional CDC recommendations. Have a safe and joyous holiday season!
