'Do The Best You Can In Every Moment!'
Financial Tips During COVID-19 Crisis:
We have collaborated with a retired banker to put these tips together. Our hope is that these help in any way possible with easing minds and providing a way forward (however small).
Thank you Miss R. Charlery.
Precautions For Online Use:
- Talk to your children about online predators! Many perverts will use this opportunity to ask for photos, nude and otherwise.
- Monitor your child's online gaming. This is especially important for our younger children. Our children are gaming with people we don't know, and in many cases the average age of gamers is 34 years old!
- Edit your privacy settings (if you don't know how, find someone you trust to help out).
- Monitor for online peer pressure.
- Check-in with your child about their online day. This is an excellent avenue for having or starting conversations.
- Zoom was not built for children! As much as possible you should be engaged during online classes. This means constant monitoring. (If you cannot, assign a responsible person to do so).
- Too many of our children are left unattended with gadgets. They all have parental controls, please use them!
- Speak to your children every morning about your expectations for use of gadgets, and of their online time.
Building Connections At Home:
Building connections (as parents) means being present when listening. This means having your feet, your heart, your ears, your eyes, your mind, your thoughts etc in the same room as your child/family members. There are millions of moments during any day to build connections with children:
- Build conversations around tv shows, movies, events, play etc.
- Talk through books, assignments etc
- Ask questions during play (especially with the younger children)
- Play together
- And many more.....
Some parents may be having a tough time managing this at present, rest assured that in our next newsletter, we are going to focus on coping skills and stress management for parents. We acknowledge that parents may sometimes have hard times because of their own trauma. However, we urge you to always do your best in every moment.
